Minimalist life is not about blindly pursuing simplicity and less.

Rather, it is to ensure the quality of life while meeting the needs of life, but to reduce material desires, avoid waste, not buy some unnecessary items, avoid taking up space, and do not have to spend time and energy taking care of these unnecessary items.

The following six items are based on my own experience. I suggest that you consider carefully before making a decision.

printer

printer is convenient, but not everyone needs it. You should consider the needs of your own family. For example, if you only print very little, once in a while, you can solve it at the print shop downstairs or at the library on weekends, there is no need to buy it.

But if you print frequently, for example, my family often needs to print music scores and homework for my children, it is really convenient to have a printer, so I bought a HP, the simplest black and white machine, which only requires a black ink cartridge. It is indeed a lot more convenient, but there is no need to upgrade to color for the time being. If there is no need for it at the moment, there is no need to waste extra money on color ink cartridges.

Dishwasher

When I was in China, there was no dishwasher in the home decoration, and there was no need for it. I just washed it after cooking. After

came to New Zealand , I found that almost all kitchens here are equipped with dishwashers. Some people are accustomed to using them at home, using them once or twice a day. Some people still maintain their old habits and do not use dishwashers. If this is the case, when renovating, you can consider not adding a dishwasher and creating more storage space.

Therefore, you should consider whether to configure it according to the needs of your family. There is no right or wrong. I prefer the dishwasher because the washed dishes are smooth, feel astringent, warm and dry.

bread machine

Many people who like to bake their own bread buy a bread machine and make bread for themselves every now and then, which is very enjoyable and convenient.

But there are relatively few people in my family. It takes a long time to make bread once, so there is really no need. Moreover, there are many choices of toast in the supermarket. I am used to buying a loaf of whole wheat toast every week or two, and freeze the excess. Get up and consume slowly. I have no particular obsession with eating, so I followed my own habits and thought twice before buying a bread machine.

Gym membership card

Fitness is a good thing, but not everyone can insist on going to the gym. If you can go there more than two or three times a week, it’s worth getting a membership card.

But if you are like me, spending three days fishing and two days drying nets, you either don’t have time, or you think the weather is bad, or it’s troublesome to drive out, you can just spread out a yoga mat at home and complete simple fitness exercises. In addition, I am currently busy with work and children, and I really don’t have time to think about the gym.

Sandwich Maker

People who like sandwiches may find it more convenient to use a sandwich machine.

I cook relatively simply, and I’m not very particular about how professional I am, so I won’t buy an extra sandwich maker to take up space if the frying pan and toaster can handle it, and I don’t find it inconvenient at all. , but I find it very convenient to use one pan to fry eggs on one side and toast on the other side. It all depends on personal habits, it’s just that I’m used to this arrangement.

lifting clothes drying rack

I used to have a balcony at home, and when I installed clothes drying racks on the balcony, I installed simple fixed ones. Later, I saw that some friends had installed remote control lifts in their homes, and I thought they were pretty good and very convenient. I thought I might consider installing one in the future.

But now there is no balcony at home. There is a large clothes drying rack in the backyard, and there are also small clothes drying racks at home. I think it is very convenient, and I have gradually forgotten about raising and lowering the clothes drying rack. It's completely based on your living environment and personal needs. Whatever you feel like is good.

Swimming annual card/secondary card

When my children were young, they learned to swim and also liked to play in the swimming pool, so I purchased a secondary card that can be used multiple times with one recharge, which is more cost-effective and convenient than buying it separately.

But now that the child is older, he is no longer very interested in swimming. He can also swim, so water safety is no longer a problem. Therefore, we don’t force our children to swim more often. If they like playing, they can go play and choose the sports they like. So I no longer apply for any swimming annual/time passes. I just buy the one for the occasion when I go there occasionally. I don’t have to leave tasks for myself. I don’t feel guilty when I buy it, but I don’t have the time or the energy to do it. When you are unsure about your future plans, try not to be tied to these early payment cards. Give yourself more freedom of choice.

The above seven items are what I found to be carefully considered before buying. Whether to buy or not is just to suit personal needs. There is no right or wrong, just follow your heart and experience.
