"Those who look out are dreaming, those who look in are awake"-Jung
The existing neuropsychiatric hospital is located on a slope. Outside, the entrance requires new control doors and handicap access. Due to the adjacent four-story retaining wall, the medical building lacks sufficient sunlight. Due to lack of budget, the building was covered by mechanical pipes that could not be relocated. Internally, the interior needs to be redesigned to meet the needs of new medical services.
Rebuild the relationship between medical staff and patients, hoping to reinterpret neuropsychiatry from the perspective of modern medicine and enhance the sense of design from the psychological level (mental?).
First move the door and safety pillar back. Add a new roofed waste disposal space and share space with adjacent storage facilities. Redesign the open area in front of the medical building, extend the driveway and reduce the slope. Adapt to the S-shaped barrier-free circular green passage, and plant tall trees to reduce the visual impact of the retaining wall.
Then, the eaves of the medical building were removed and a metal mesh was added 60cm away from the existing wall. In addition to covering the old pipes and providing adequate rain protection, the metal wire mesh also allows air to flow and reflects light into the interior. The old walls and the new metal mesh form the new skin of the building, which defines the new and the old, the exterior and the interior, and presents a different appearance during the day and night.
The landscape is organic. The building walls are simplified. The interior is an interpretation of geometry and duality. Negative space provides space, and the entity is storage space and furniture. The objects seem to be independent and scattered. Although the functions may be different, some may have the same shape. For example, the security pillar and the reception counter have the same cylindrical shape. The same method is applied to the interior of a mental hospital.
resemblance echoes the concept of modern neuropsychiatry. The translucent epidermis of the hospital acts as a filter/receptor between the inside and the outside, integrating the landscape with the internal geometry . The body is the receptor and the brain is the editor. Fragmented information will be received, decoded and edited to form reality.
