Many flower lovers have this experience: the newly bought jasmine is full of buds, and the blossoms are fragrant. As a result, after the flowers bloom, the number of buds is much less, and the smell of the flowers is faded. The jasmine planted one after another, each time full of buds. Is it because you can't raise it yourself, or did you buy the wrong variety?
In fact, the reason is very simple. Jasmine is different from the green dill and spider plant at home. The green dill and spider plant can grow very well with water. If you want to keep jasmine well, there are two things you must not be "lazy", otherwise the amount of jasmine flowers will be reduced. Less and less, the fragrance will also fade.
1. Pruning
The pruning here refers to the pruning of Jasmine after the end of one bloom, that is, the pruning after blooming. Everyone should know that , Jasmine has a small feature: the ability of new branches to bloom.
We bought a new pot of jasmine with a full head of buds. After the buds bloom, the branches that have bloomed will gradually become lignified, so their ability to grow new buds will become worse, and new shoots and new branches will not grow. When it comes out, the amount of flowers in the next crop will drop sharply. The solution is: pruning.
How to prune jasmine? When a crop of flowers is over, all the buds are finished. At this time, we must prune them in time to prevent the remaining flowers from continuing to consume nutrients and affect the flowering of the next crop. The pruning method is to shorten all the branches of jasmine, and keep only 2-3 pairs of leaves on each branch, so that it can germinate a lot of lateral buds and grow new branches.
Some flower lovers may be reluctant to prune, worrying that the jasmine will not bloom after pruning, so you don't have to worry about this.First of all, the branches of jasmine grow very fast. After pruning, as long as there is enough water, fertilizer and light, it will soon grow new side buds and branches. The new branches that grow are the main force of flowering. Pruning is to promote growth and Flowering, if you don't prune it, it will not bloom. After all, we don't raise jasmine to make it taller and stronger, but to make it bloom more.
Second, fertilization
To raise jasmine, the second thing you can't be lazy about is fertilization. Jasmine has a particularly strong ability to consume nutrients during the flowering period. If the supply of nutrients is not sufficient, it will not only affect the flowering, but also the blooming flowers will not be fragrant. So how do you fertilize jasmine? What fertilizer do you apply?
In the stage of jasmine with long branches and leaves, we need to apply growth-promoting fertilizer to jasmine. Compound fertilizer or organic fertilizer with a balanced content of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are acceptable. After jasmine enters the flowering period, it needs a lot of phosphorus and potassium. It is necessary to supplement phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. The most commonly used is potassium dihydrogen phosphate or Huaduoduo No. 2.

Take the newly bought jasmine as an example. The jasmines we bought all have flower buds. No fertilization is required at this stage. That's it. Some flower friends have asked, doesn't jasmine need to apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers during the flowering period to promote flowering? Actually this is wrong. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers promote the differentiation of flower buds. After the flower buds are formed, the use of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be stopped, otherwise the opening and withering of the flower buds will be accelerated, but the flowering time will be shortened.
The buds of this stubble have completely bloomed. We need to prune them after the flowers. After pruning, a compound fertilizer or organic fertilizer should be applied in time. This is to promote the growth of buds and branches. With sufficient nutrients, new branches will grow. Much more, grows faster.
After the new buds grow two pairs of leaves, we will apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to the jasmine to prepare it for flowering. Apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to jasmine, potassium dihydrogen phosphate or Huaduoduo No. 2. They are all water-soluble fertilizers. After dissolving in water in a certain proportion (usually 1:1000), spray the leaves once a week. Every time you water jasmine to irrigate the roots, you can also use potassium dihydrogen phosphate with a concentration of 0.01% or Huaduoduo No. 2 instead of water to water the jasmine.
It will take about 20 days for the jasmine to bloom for the second time. At this time, stop using phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and wait for it to bloom slowly.
In a summer, with proper pruning and fertilization, jasmine can bloom 4-5 stubbles of flowers. With diligent pruning and fertilization, jasmine will have more and more flowers and a strong fragrance.
How to care for jasmine
Is it enough to just prune and fertilize jasmine? of course not. There is a saying that "jasmine can't die in the sun", jasmine is not only resistant to pruning, likes fertilizer, but also likes water and light. We can't ignore watering and sun exposure.
Jasmine is a southern flower. The jasmine planted outdoors has enough light. Even if the fertilization cannot keep up, there are still many buds and strong fragrance. This is due to the light. When raising jasmine in the north, or raising jasmine indoors in pots, you must pay attention to the light.
Usually, jasmine is placed in a well-lit position, and at least 5 hours of sufficient light is guaranteed every day. This is the basic condition for its flowering and cannot be replaced by any flower fertilizer.
Let’s talk about watering, jasmine likes water, and jasmine is planted in the ground. You can water it once a day in the morning. If it is a potted jasmine, you must observe the dryness and wetness of the potting soil. For jasmine planted in nutritious soil, it should be 2 cm below the potting soil.
