On February 12, 2006, just after the Spring Festival, He Yasheng, who worked at a funeral parlor in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, received a special postcard with the above sentence in it.

"Master He Yasheng: Your great life-saving kindness will be engraved in my heart forever. Happy New Year!"

On February 12, 2006, just after the Spring Festival, He Yasheng, who worked in a funeral parlor in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, received a special postcard with the above sentence in it.

Help, great kindness, these words impressed He Yasheng's eyes, but it took him a long time to recover. Seeing the name of the sender "Chen Cuiju" and the mailing address of Jinhua, Zhejiang Province made him feel even more incredible. He racked his brains and couldn't think of this person.

"Oh, it's her!" Suddenly, He Yasheng thought of something and exclaimed. 11 years ago, while working as an undertaker in a funeral parlor, he discovered that an "unknown female corpse" was still breathing. He quickly stopped the cremation and notified the director.

Many years later, the girl who was almost pushed into the crematorium grew up. This time she sent a postcard, it turned out that she came back to repay her kindness...

Dongguan convergence worker, rescued the "unknown female corpse"

He Yasheng still remembers that it was noon on July 27, 1995. He had just returned to the funeral parlor after returning from field work, when he received a task from the director, requiring him to pull an "unknown female corpse" in the morgue into the cremator for cremation.

He Yasheng has worked in Dongguan Funeral Parlor for many years, and he is no longer surprised by the "unknown female corpse" that will be incinerated today. At that time, Dongguan was a mixed city. There were many young men and women who came to work, and some were trafficked. Some of them died and their identities could not even be traced, so they had to be cremated by the funeral parlor.

He Yasheng had heard about the origin of the unknown female corpse. She was discovered by sanitation workers under an overpass. At that time, she was unkempt and smelled bad. When the sanitation worker saw that she was not breathing, he quickly called the police. The forensic doctor from the Public Security Bureau conducted a physical examination on the girl and determined that she was dead, and issued a death certificate on the spot. Since he had no identification, the police took him to the funeral home and prepared for cremation. The task of cremation was handed over to 22-year-old undertaker He Yasheng.

After everything was ready, He Yasheng came to the unknown female body and prepared to push her into the crematorium. But at this moment, something surprising happened to He Yasheng: The abdomen of this "female corpse" was rising and falling, as if she was breathing.

He Yasheng was so frightened that he instantly thought of various scenes from Hong Kong horror movies. Could it be that the girl had some grievances during her lifetime and actually "resurrected and demanded her life"? Fortunately, He Yasheng had been in the industry for many years and was bold enough. He tiptoed forward and discovered to his surprise that the "female corpse"'s throat was moving and her fingers were moving slightly.

She is really not dead! He Yasheng breathed a sigh of relief and quickly reported the matter to the curator. People's lives were at stake, so the curator did not dare to neglect and rushed the girl to Dongguan Fucheng Hospital.

After emergency diagnosis, the doctor found that the girl was indeed not dead, but she was seriously ill, extremely malnourished, severely dehydrated, had electrolyte imbalance, acidosis, and severe organ failure. Her life was in danger.

The identity of the girl was unknown and she was naturally unable to afford any medical expenses. However, her life was at stake. The dean gave an order and the medical staff got busy and gave the girl emergency treatment. After the girl escaped from danger, the head nurse Li Qiongjuan hired a nurse to take care of her daily life at her own expense.

However, the girl was already skinny and skinny, incontinent of urine and feces, and smelled terrible. Even though she was an old nurse who had been working as a nurse for decades, she was daunted by her situation and would not do it no matter how much she was paid. In desperation, the hospital sent several groups of nurses to take turns taking care of the girl, insisting on injecting her with fluids and scrubbing her body every day.

Hard work paid off. Three months later, the girl finally woke up and escaped from the hell. After learning that the "female corpse" had been mysteriously resurrected, Dongguan citizens rushed to tell the news. Reporters from major media also came to the hospital to interview the girl.Facing the reporter's camera, the girl also spoke and told her own experience...

Identity revealed, relay to rescue Guizhou female workers

It turned out that the girl's name was Chen Cuiju, she had just turned 18 years old, and she was a Miao girl born in Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province.

The small mountain village where Chen Cuiju lives is located in southeastern Guizhou. It is poor and backward, and the villagers have made a living by farming for generations. During the Chinese New Year in 1995, Chen Cuiju heard from her cousin that the outside world was exciting and everyone chose to go to Guangdong to work and earn a lot of money.

Chen Cuiju had just turned 18. After listening to her cousin’s story, she was eager to give it a try and started thinking about working in Guangdong. Chen's parents also unconditionally supported their daughter's idea. In order to raise money for their daughter to go out to work, the two elders did not hesitate to sell the wood that was originally used to renovate the house.

After the New Year, Chen Cuiju packed her bags, and with her parents' earnest instructions, she set off with her cousin He to work in Dongguan. Although she is not very old, she has been working at home all year round and is hard-working. After applying for a job, she got her wish to work in an electronics factory.

However, just after her life and work settled down, Chen Cuiju fell ill due to acclimatization. The co-workers were concerned about her condition and urged her to go to the hospital for treatment. But this little girl is usually reluctant to buy a pack of instant noodles, so how can she seek medical treatment. As time went by, her condition worsened and she became emaciated due to hunger. She had to go to work in order not to have her wages deducted, and she was like a zombie every day.

One day in July 1995, it was finally Sunday. Chen Cuiju, who originally wanted to take a rest, was called out by her sisters in the factory to go shopping in downtown Dongguan. This was Chen Cuiju's first time going to the city. She was unfamiliar with the place and was in a mental state due to illness, so she unknowingly fell behind the team and became separated from her co-workers.

Isolated and helpless, Chen Cuiju had no choice but to walk towards the electronics factory with her sparse memory. Being timid by nature, she didn't dare to ask for directions, so she walked aimlessly outside the city, digging through garbage dumps when she was hungry and drinking water from the river when she was thirsty.

On July 26, Chen Cuiju finally couldn't hold on any longer. She fell under an overpass, feeling dizzy for a while and then fell down. When she woke up, she found herself lying in the hospital.

Chen Cuiju

When she learned that she was almost cremated on the spot as a "female corpse", Chen Cuiju couldn't laugh or cry. She was also grateful to He Yasheng and the medical staff who saved her life. After this incident, Chen Cuiju was still frightened, and decided to return to her hometown temporarily to recover her health before making any plans.

However, when the news came back to Guizhou, Chen Cuiju's parents were in trouble, and their daughter finally managed to save her life. But he couldn't even pay for his daughter's trip home. In the end, in line with the principle of saving lives to the end, the hospital once again extended a helping hand and raised funds to cover Chen Cuiju’s travel expenses, and also subsidized her 800 yuan to cover her future medical expenses.

Holding the ticket and 800 yuan in cash, Chen Cuiju shed tears of gratitude again. She knelt down in front of the dean and swore on the spot: "Thank you to everyone who has helped me. I will use practical actions to repay you kind-hearted people!"

Everyone applauded the little girl’s ambition, but everyone only hoped that she would be safe and sound. They never thought that after 11 years, Chen Cuiju really did it!

Chen Cuiju and Chen Zhonglian

Surviving the catastrophe will be a blessing

In October 1995, Chen Cuiju returned to her hometown in Guizhou. After the media spread, her story became widely known, and the Dongguan literary and art circle even put the matter on the stage. Named "Picking Chrysanthemums and Returning to Hometown".

Chen Cuiju did not forget the kind people who helped her. During the Chinese New Year in 1996, she specially sent a thank-you letter to He Yasheng and Dongguan Fucheng Hospital to express her gratitude.

However, when Chen Cuiju, who had narrowly escaped death, returned to her hometown, she faced difficulties in her future livelihood. She wanted to go out to work again, but she was frightened when she thought about that experience, and she didn't know where to go.

At this time, a middle-aged man named Chen Zhonglian from Jinhua, Zhejiang, who worked as an art teacher in a middle school, contacted her. After Chen Zhonglian learned Chen Cuiju's story, he sympathized with the girl. He believed that only by learning culture could Chen Cuiju change her destiny. Therefore, he wrote a letter to Chen Cuiju and invited her to study at Jinhua .

According to Teacher Chen's idea, Chen Cuiju can go to the middle school where he works and learn culture and fine arts from himself. But when he informed the school of this proposal, hoping to exempt Chen Cuiju from tuition fees, the school rejected him because of insufficient funds.

Teacher Chen was not discouraged. He used part of his salary to pay the tuition fees for Chen Cuiju and his sister, and brought them to Jinhua.

When she first arrived in Jinhua, Chen Cuiju had a very low self-esteem. She didn't communicate with others and couldn't learn art. The teacher at the school even asserted: "Looking at the situation of the little girl, it is almost impossible to become a painter."

However, Teacher Chen did not give up on Chen Cuiju. Whenever he found that Chen Cuiju was slacking off, he always gave her sincere instructions. He told her: "Think of the benefactors who have saved you. You have to work hard enough to fulfill your original vow!"

Under Teacher Chen's careful training, Chen Cuiju lived up to the trust and finally became a painter. Her paintings have repeatedly won awards in international competitions, and she has held exhibitions of her paintings in more than 30 countries, including the United States and South Korea, and has achieved success in one fell swoop.

As Chen Cuiju’s junior student, Teacher Chen was very pleased with her achievements. He said more than once: "My ten years of hard work have not been in vain, and I have never regretted helping her!"

Repay the kindness with pictures, return to Dongguan to repay the kindness

During the Spring Festival of 2006, Chen Cuiju, who has become a well-known painter, sent a postcard to his lifesaver He Yasheng and Dongguan Fucheng Hospital. Every line of the words is full of gratitude for the kindness that year.

On April 9, 2006, 11 years later, Chen Cuiju, dressed in traditional Miao costume, once again set foot on the land of Dongguan. This time she has enough confidence and is here to repay the favor!

On the way to Fucheng Hospital, she ignored the looks of passers-by and insisted on kneeling down to express her gratitude with the traditional Chinese gift. When she saw He Yasheng, the benefactor who had helped her in the past, she burst into tears and couldn't even kneel down.

In order to repay her kindness, Chen Cuiju not only made a 42-meter-long painting named "Dead Trees Rejoice in Spring" to report her achievements to her benefactor and express her gratitude.

Not only that, after leaving Dongguan, Chen Cuiju would call her benefactor to greet her and send her carefully prepared postcards during every traditional Chinese festival.

In 2022, Chen Cuiju has passed her forties and still focuses most of her energy on painting. In addition to painting, she actively participated in public welfare undertakings and repeatedly donated money and showed love to children in impoverished mountainous areas.

In Chen Cuiju's own words, she regained her life with the help of her benefactor. She is also grateful and gives back to the society. This is the best reward for her benefactor.
