Liu Zongyuan was born in a declining family, but he had few ambitions and was extremely intelligent, and he was eager to revive his family. He passed the Jinshi exam at the age of 21, and then promoted all the way. By the age of 32, he was already in the sixth rank. But at the age of 33, his life and career changed tremendously. After Tang Shunzong ascended the throne, his "Innovation Group" implemented a series of measures to reform bad policies. Since this innovation touched the interests of many people, a coup occurred, and all members of its "Innovation Group" were severely punished, and Liu Zongyuan was also demoted to Yongzhou Sima. During his 10 years in Yongzhou, Liu Zongyuan studied philosophy, literature, etc., and traveled through Yongzhou's landscapes, making friends with local scholars and idle people. After finally returning to Chang'an , he was demoted to the governor of Liuzhou because of a poem written by Liu Yuxi.
