They walked and walked in the deep mountains and forests, and came to the playground today one day.
Li Zicheng and his soldiers saw that the terrain here was good. Qi River , Xia River and Heiqi River converged here, turning east and west, surging south. On both sides of the river, there are mountains with steep and steep (dialect: very steep) on one side, and on the other side are low and flat hills. There is a narrow and long canyon between the mountain hills. There is a tall mountain at the exit of the canyon that is tightly blocked, like a cloth bag with mouth. The hills and canyons are densely covered with woods, and even people are rarely squeezed into it.
plus this is the border area of Shaanxi and Henan Province, with sparsely populated border areas. The heavy troops of the Ming army, Shangluo and Nanyang are all two or three hundred miles away from this place. It is really a good place to defend, but difficult to attack, train troops and farm. The general ordered some food to be used to help the poor people around him, and the people supported the rebel army even more.
Soon, all the rebels who had scattered all gathered back one after another. Many local people voluntarily joined the uprising army, and the uprising army grew stronger and stronger. But the general died of illness after working hard. The people were very sad. An old man in his seventies personally presented his black-lacquered cypress coffin with a coffin inside and outside (dialect: means that the inside and outside of the coffin is painted black and brightly painted) to the rebel army and buried the body of the general.
On the day of the burial, Li Zicheng's eye injury had not healed, so he personally presided over the funeral. Fang Yuan people came to the funeral with the elderly and the young. After the grand memorial service, Li Zicheng lifted up his battle robe and wrapped the loess to add soil to the general's tomb. All the soldiers of the rebel army and the people cried bitterly. In order to express their respect to the general, the soldiers and the people automatically lined up in a long line, each holding the soil in his hands and adding graves to the general's tomb in turn. One handful after another, it suddenly piled up into a bun dozens of feet tall.
