In addition to being a great revolutionary, Chairman Mao is also an knowledgeable poet and scholar.
In his knowledgeable and knowledgeable academic hobbies, there are not only military, history, calligraphy, poetry, etc., but also little-known religious teaching.
Chairman Mao and the 10th Panchen Lama
Most people in the world know that Chairman Mao is an atheist, but they don’t know much about his interest in religion.
Not only does he often spend time studying some religious classics, he also likes to go to temples to talk to monks. and sometimes he even goes around with ordinary people temple fairs and play lottery, which has also been passed down many interesting stories.
For monks, the temporary central government of the Chinese Soviet Union moved to Yunshishan Ancient Temple. Yunshi Mountain is located west of Ruijin City, Jiangxi Province. The Red Army was forced to live here to rest during the fifth anti-encirclement and suppression struggle.
This temple was originally a famous temple in Ruijin . It was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. However, due to the war, the monks in the temple fled and died. Now only one of the hosts of the Dharma name Leneng is left.
Mao Zedong heard that this master Leneng was very knowledgeable and proficient in Sanskrit. He was not only proficient in Buddhist scriptures, but also very accomplished in medical skills.
Many poor people near the temple cannot afford to hire a doctor, and they usually find fun to see a doctor.
And this monk is indeed kind and generous. Not only does he not take any money to help the people see a doctor, he also often goes up the mountain to collect herbs and distributes it to them.
Because he heard a lot of rumors about Master Leneng among the people, Mao Zedong became curious about him. In addition, he heard that the monk also liked poetry and books, so he had the idea of making friends with him.
So after the provisional government settled in the ancient temple, Mao Zedong sent the guards around him to invite Leneng, thinking that he could meet this monk with high attainments and cultivation.
In Mao Zedong's imagination, this monk should be a senior master. He specifically instructed the guards that if the old man was unwilling to come, there was no need to force him.
But in fact, Leneng is only over 30 years old, which surprised Mao Zedong very much. But in addition to being surprised, he and Le Neng had a very speculative chat, which made him feel a little more intimate about Le Neng.
The two talked about poetry in the temple, enjoyed paintings and played chess, and enjoyed Mao Zedong's calligraphy, paintings, and chess skills. They were easy-going and often went to comfort the people nearby with them. They couldn't help but admire them and sighed that there were such strange people in the Red Army.
However, although Mao Zedong and Leneng have regarded each other as confidants, they have never mentioned their identities and past events, and have always maintained the demeanor of a gentleman.
Until one day, Le Neng took in a young woman who was pursued by a villain for some reason. In order to save the woman's life, he could only hide the woman in the temple.
But this is not a long-term solution. Leneng asked Mao Zedong to discuss the solution.
Chairman Mao
Mao Zedong himself has no religious beliefs . His views on this matter are very different from Leneng. He comforted Leneng and said:
"Why don't you go back to secularity and marry this woman. First, this woman can stay in the temple with justification, and second, she can also help you handle various matters in the temple. Wouldn't that be great?"
Leneng shook his head repeatedly when he heard Mao Zedong say this, exclaiming that this would cause chaos in Buddhism, but he was afraid that the woman would not have a place to go and would be harassed by villains after leaving the temple, and he was in a dilemma again.
Mao Zedong looked at him and smiled and said, "Didn't the Dharma Sutra also say that the mind produces all kinds of laws, and the mind destroys all kinds of laws! It has been used since ancient times, so why should you be bound by laws and regulations? What's more, there is still the Soviet government for you now!"
Leon could hear what he said, so he simply told the story of why he became a monk.
It turned out that he was a rich young master, but because he fell in love with his maid, he was sent by his parents to Polish to study abroad. After sending him out, the family drove the maid out of the house, and the beautiful girl also committed suicide by throwing herself into the sea.
After Le Neng finally studied abroad and returned to China, he realized that he had been separated from his lover forever. In anger, he became a monk and became a monk.
Coincidentally, his maid did not die when she jumped into the sea, but was rescued and sold to a villain as her wife. She could not bear to escape to a nearby temple and happened to meet a monk who helped her.
Hearing this, Mao Zedong understood, he clapped his hands and said happily:
"The mirror is reunited! You are the blessing of saving all living beings and saving all living beings!"
After saying that, he brought his secretary to persuade Le to return to secular life, reunite with his sweetheart, and finally made the lovers finally get married.
After Mao Zedong and Central Red Army evacuated Ruijin, Master Leneng also repaid Mao Zedong's kindness, not afraid of white terror and violent encirclement, and with his wife picked up and covered up batches of Red Army guerrillas at Yunshishan Ancient Temple.
Watch the temple fair with the people
In October 1947, Mao Zedong led the Party Central Committee to the northern Shaanxi to Jiaxian Town. Here, he visited several famous temples in the local area.
The staff accompanying him asked him: "Are there all superstitions in the temples? We visited so many temples, will it be..."
Mao Zedong interrupted directly and immediately corrected: "That is culture, cultural heritage, either religion or superstition, you all must treat it correctly."
When visiting one of the temples, Mao Zedong saw that the exquisite murals on the wall were destroyed and were damaged in an outrageous way.
He felt very sad, so he instructed the local county leaders who visited with him: "These are cultural heritages. Except for cow heads and horse faces, they must be preserved and not destroyed."
In addition, Mao Zedong also asked the monks in the temple about the government's work and told the monks to properly protect the historical and cultural heritage such as reliefs, statues, stone tablets and plaques in the temple and never damage them.
The monks were very moved by Mao Zedong's advice.
They knew that Mao Zedong was an atheist and had no religious beliefs, but he was able to respect religious culture so much and attach so much importance to the protection of cultural heritage.
So they rushed to invite Mao Zedong to stay and attend the temple fair the next day.
Mao Zedong became interested when he heard this and agreed immediately, but this made the accompanying staff difficult.
After all, anyone who can attend the temple fair can be attended. Not only is it unsafe, it is also difficult to manage.
Mao Zedong heard that they were unwilling to let himself participate in such an event, so he suddenly turned black: "We look at temple fairs to see culture, and watching operas to see people's sentiments. If we don't understand culture, we don't understand people's sentiments, the revolution will not be done well."
Everyone nodded in recognition when he heard what he said. The temple fair was performed on Pingju . People from dozens of miles of radius rushed to join in the fun. Everyone was very enthusiastic about the temple fair and wanted to squeeze in and stand in front row to watch it more clearly.
The accompanying staff brought a chair to Mao Zedong and asked him to sit and watch, but Mao Zedong refused.
He was like the common people who were crowding into the crowd. Not only did he stand and watch the whole process, but he also talked and laughed with the people around him.
However, during this period, some people recognized Mao Zedong. For a moment, everyone under the stage exclaimed. Everyone who was watching the show stopped watching the show, turned around and looked at Mao Zedong. Some people who brought their stools wanted to give up their seats to him.
Mao Zedong immediately waved his hand and shouted, "Don't let it go! I'm good to just stand like this!"
But when he shouted, he attracted more people to watch, and even the actors on the stage stopped acting and wanted to step down to see Mao Zedong.
After a long time, everyone calmed down and the stage returned to peace. Mao Zedong still stood and watched the performance of the temple fair with the people.
When Mao Zedong left Jiaxian city, he wrote an inscription to the then county party secretary: "Stand on the side of the working people."
He showed in practice what it means to stand on the side of the working people, that is, we must work with the people and enter the hearts of the people.
Wutai Mountain draws the upper lottery
On the evening of April 9, 1948, due to heavy snow on the way, for safety reasons, Mao Zedong, who was going to lead the central government to Xibaipo , could only stay in Wutai Mountain Tayuan Temple .
Mount Wutai Bodhisattva Top
Mount Wutai is originally a famous mountain in Chinese Buddhist , and is famous all over the country.
Mao Zedong is very familiar with Chinese history and culture and religious culture. Before that, he always wanted to see the style of Mount Wutai. Now he has to stay in Mount Wutai because of the weather. He thinks this is a great opportunity to appreciate the charm of Mount Wutai.
On the way up the mountain, Mao Zedong was in a happy mood and even burst into laughter involuntarily. Ren Bishi and others who were accompanying him felt inexplicable and asked him why he laughed.
Mao Zedong replied: "When we moved to northern Shaanxi last year, we also visited Baiyunshan Temple in Jiaxian. This time we came to Mount Wutai. This is our country's Buddhist holy land , which can be more feasted!"
Wutai Mountain Copper Palace
As he said that, he took out a scripture he carried with him and read it. Soon he arrived in the yard of the Tayuan Temple . As soon as he saw the old abbot in the courtyard, Mao Zedong quickly said politely, "Disturbate your temple!"
Abbot bowed while paying a tribute, while noticing the scriptures in Mao Zedong's hand and asked, "Are you reading scriptures too?"
Mao Zedong smiled and gave the Buddhist scriptures to the old abbot, saying, "I will take a look at it casually. I am an atheist, and I do not believe in gods and Buddhas, and I cannot be called a 'noble'."
Abbot heard him say this, He also replied with a smile: "The noble man believes in Buddhism and Buddha, but the noble man does not believe in Buddhism and Buddha. What should we do?"
March 0When he heard him talk, his words were quite philosophical, so he asked about the history of his temple and the story of Mount Wutai. During the conversation and laughter, he also asked jokingly: "Which temple is Lu Zhishen and Yang Wulang a monk?"
Abbot smiled generously, and did not answer this question, but invited Mao Zedong to visit Mount Wutai the next day.
Mao Zedong agreed happily, and he was very yearning for it. When the next day, the auspicious snow had just begun to clear and the rising sun rose, Mao Zedong came down to the abbot's guidance to the high platform to see the scenery of the peaks of Mount Wutai.
He looked at the outlines of the temples and peaks, and listened to the symphony of bells, drums and cymbals, and combined with the sound of the singing of the Buddhist sacred place, unconsciously impressed by the solemn atmosphere of this Buddhist holy land.
He sighed, "The splendid culture of the ancients is closely linked to religion!"
Then he visited the Tayuan Temple with the abbot and accidentally saw a couplet posted on the east gate: I advise you not to beat the three spring birds, and the son is waiting for his mother to return in the nest.
He looked at these two seemingly simple but profound words, and couldn't help but think about it, and then said:
"This couplet should be promoted. Although we are not monks, we don't have to follow the Buddhist mind of compassion and releasing animals at all times, this sentence also makes sense from the perspective of materialism .You should also know that Sanchun Bird is Yibi ! To protect! "
Then he pointed to the somewhat damaged scriptures piled on the ground and said:
"When the whole country is liberated, we must protect temples and cultural relics, and we must never let the cultural heritage of the motherland be destroyed. "
The abbot and some monks who were accompanying him were surprised at Mao Zedong's realm when he heard him say this.
They not only revealed their knowledge when they heard Mao Zedong's words and conversations, but also familiar with the principles of Buddhism. They already felt that this person was extraordinary. When they heard that he wanted to protect temples and cultural relics, they felt that this person was lofty.
Mao Zedong looked around the group On the mountain, the red sun shines brightly. While he was chatting with the abbot about Buddhism, he walked towards the hall.
In the hall, a monk was decorating the signature for the pilgrim who came to pray for. The pilgrim lowered his head and listened quietly.
happened to have the signature completed, and the pilgrim got up and was about to leave. Mao Zedong walked up and bent down slightly and said to the monk, "Master of disturbing..."
The monk saw the extraordinary man in front of him, and quickly replied, "Why do you want to disturb me? Does the donor require signing or dismantling the words? "
Mao Zedong smiled: "Please sign and divination are purely a game, and Communists never believe in destiny. But today I benefited a lot from the temple, so it would be okay to draw a lottery. "
Wutai Mountain
So he picked up the tag and drew one casually. The monk took the bamboo stick drawn by Mao Zedong and said in a deep voice: "The donor's trip is safe and good luck in his life. "
After hearing this, Mao Zedong waved his hand:
" Yesterday, he passed the top of Mount Wutai, and the car lost control and almost lost his life! If I have many difficulties and setbacks in my life, I will definitely be a joke. ”
After he said that, he solemnly put the upper sign back into the bamboo tube and said to the monk: "But thank you for your kindness." "
Although Mao Zedong just played the lottery, as he said, his life was ups and downs, and the hardships he experienced and the blows he encountered were several times more than ordinary people.
But he was able to escape danger and turn danger into safety again and again, relying on the strength he held his destiny in his hands.
Just like his attitude towards religion, although he had no faith, he respected faith the most, even if he did not believe in fate, he respected fate.
So after many trials, Mao Zedong was still able to lead the Chinese people to the road of hope and prosperity. This is not the "best good luck" of the Chinese people?
