Preface
On December 26, 1988, General Wang Zhen in Beijing received a call from his old friend Tao Zhiyue's family. After learning that his old friend died of illness, Wang Zhen shed tears. What made him even more unacceptable was that after Tao Zhiyue left, he did not keep a penny, and his family didn't even have the money to buy a cemetery for Tao Zhiyue.
The past scenes emerged in General Wang Zhen's mind. He remembered that during the three years he had been in Xinjiang with Tao Zhiyue, Tao Zhiyue often told him two things that he would never forget in his life: One was a gift from Chairman Mao to treat him to a meal; the other was a big gift from Peng Dehuai.
Thinking of Tao Zhiyue's happy expression when he told these two things, Wang Zhen's eyes were wet again... · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·
This child was Tao Zhiyue, who later became the founding general.
was unfortunate when he was born in a chaotic era; he was lucky when he was born in a wealthy family. Tao Zhiyue's fate is the same as when he was born. The sun is high, and although it is unbearable, it is also full of light.
After the founding of New China , Hunan has always been a province in China that attaches great importance to education, and the same was true before that. Because of his wealthy family conditions, Tao Zhiyue received the best education at that time. With his talent, he could write good classical Chinese when he was not old.
Tao Zhiyue not only studied well, but also had a kind heart. Seeing that his friends around him had no food, he secretly took out the rice from his home and gave it to them. When his father found out, he taught him a lesson, but he retorted: "Father, we are human beings, and they are also human beings. Why do they go hungry if we have food to eat? This is not fair."
Facing Tao Zhiyue, who has read a lot of books and speaks well, his father was also amused and crying for a while.
1911, Tao Zhiyue was admitted to Wuchang Army No. 3 Middle School. Participated in Wuchang Uprising . During the Wuchang Uprising, Tao Zhiyue saw the corruption of the Qing Dynasty and was also worried about the chaos in China's warlords at that time. After stealing the revolutionary achievements, Tao Zhiyue started studying again and was admitted to the Baoding Army Officer School in Hebei in 1915.
After coming to Army Officer School , Tao Zhiyue officially started his glorious years and made great achievements for the founding and development of New China for the rest of his life.
After graduating from the Military Academy, Tao Zhiyue participated in the battle to protect the country and the law, and then participated in the first Northern Expedition of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. During the Northern Expedition, Tao Zhiyue served as the regiment commander and later as the commander of the 3rd Division of the 40th Army. During the war, Tao Zhiyue had excellent command and became a courageous and resourceful young general.
violated the orders of Chiang Kai-shek and did not fight the Chinese
Tao Zhiyue gained the trust and reuse of Chiang Kai-shek after making his mark in the Northern Expedition.
1927, Chiang Kai-shek launched the inhumane April 12 counter-revolutionary coup and slaughtered the Communists, which made Tao Zhiyue very unhappy.
In October 1934, Chiang Kai-shek launched the fifth "encirclement and suppression" of the Central Red Army. In the case of failure in the previous several encirclements and suppression, this time, Chiang Kai-shek fought all his belongings and mobilized more than 1 million troops, plus 100 aircraft and cannons and other -heavy weapons . In order to preserve its strength, the Central Red Army was forced to give up the Central Revolutionary Base Area, break through and move, and start the Long March of .
1935, Tao Zhiyue was appointed commander of the 8th Division under the jurisdiction of the Kuomintang Gansu Provincial Chairman Zhu Shaoliang. He was ordered to defend the Wushan and Huajialing areas of Longxi Longxi to prevent the Red Army from heading north. Peng Dehuai, then commander of the Shaanxi-Gansu Detachment of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, was a childhood friend with Xiang Chaozhong, the deputy division commander of Tao Zhiyue, and then wrote to Xiang Chaozhong, "I asked him to let the Red Army go."
reported Peng Dehuai's meaning to Tao Zhiyue, Tao Zhiyue said: "After the Red Army's troops came over, you should do what you said in the letter."
Xiang Chaozhong asked in confusion: "Why did the division commander agree so happily? I thought you wouldn't agree!" Tao Zhiyue said: "We are all Chinese and should not hurt each other."
With the help of Tao Zhiyue, Peng Dehuai led the troops through the defense zone smoothly. In order to cover up, after Peng Dehuai's troops passed by, Tao Zhiyue asked the soldiers to pretend to chase after them and then shot into the sky.
became famous in one battle
1936, after the Xi'an Incident, Tao Zhiyue learned that Chiang Kai-shek had agreed to cooperate with the Communist Party to fight against Japan, and was so excited that he could not fall asleep for several nights.
Tao Zhiyue said to his subordinates: "The Japanese do whatever they want on our Chinese land, harming our people, and occupying our land. I have long wanted to fight with them."
1937, after the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War in , Tao Zhiyue directly asked Chiang Kai-shek to "go to the front line." Chiang Kai-shek happily agreed.
On September 19, after Tao Zhiyue arrived in Shanghai by train, he didn't have time to rest and immediately deployed soldiers from Yunzaobang to repair fortifications overnight. The next morning, he personally led the 8th Division and the Japanese devils to launch an attack.
Japan has excellent weapons and aircraft cooperated with the attack. Seeing that the soldiers were not very motivated, Tao Zhiyue told the soldiers about the stories of Yue Fei and Qi Jiguang and the heroic deeds of patriotic generals such as Zuo Zongtang and . Under his speech, the fighters' fighting spirit was inspired and they fought a desperate battle with Japan.
Tao Zhiyue commanded and shot in the trenches. The soldiers fought with the Japanese devils for 20 days and nights. The battle between
made the Japanese know that the Chinese are not easy to bully. It is a "dream" to win China in three months. The battle of
was over. Tao Zhiyue looked at the more than 800 people who survived, and was so heartbroken that he couldn't breathe. Hu Zongnan praised Tao Zhiyue for leading his troops with courage and excellent command. However, facing the praise from his immediate boss, Tao Zhiyue said with red eyes: "9,000 people have been sacrificed, that is more than 9,000 lives!"
Tao Zhiyue is a man with iron bones, but after a battle was over, he felt extremely painful inside. Hu Zongnan promoted him to commander of the 76th Army, but there was no smile on Tao Zhiyue's face.
Peng Dehuai gave a big gift
1946, when Zhang Zhi was passing by Jiuquan, Gansu, he had an in-depth conversation with Tao Zhiyue, then the commander of the Hexi security guard. Later, with the recommendation of Zhang Zhizhong, Tao Zhiyue was transferred to Xinjiang as commander-in-chief of the security guard. After coming to Xinjiang, Tao Zhiyue’s first thing he did was to use his power to release more than 130 party members and their families in our party’s detention by Shengshicai .
In September 1949, Tao Zhiyue led the Xinjiang Corps to about 100,000 officers and soldiers to revolt, and Xinjiang was liberated peacefully.
Chairman Mao happily said to Zhou Enlai and other leaders: "Tao Zhiyue is a brave and resourceful patriotic general. He has done a lot of great things for our party over the years."
After the liberation of Xinjiang, Peng Dehuai and Wang Zhen met Tao Zhiyue in Jiuquan under the instructions of the Party Central Committee.
During the Red Army's Long March, Tao Zhiyue let the troops led by Peng Dehuai pass through his defense zone smoothly. Peng Dehuai always remembers this in his heart.
So many years have passed, and although the two have never met each other, they have been intimate for a long time. On the day of meeting, Peng Dehuai and Wang Zhen were waiting outside Jiuquan City for a long time. When they saw Tao Zhiyue get off the car, the two quickly walked towards Tao Zhiyue, holding their three pairs of big hands tightly together.
General Wang Zhen hugged Tao Zhiyue tightly and praised his uprising feat.
Peng Dehuai smiled and said to Tao Zhiyue: "Commander-in-Chief Tao has made great contributions to our party and the people of the whole country. I have a gift to give to you. "
Tao Zhiyue didn't know what gift it was. Just when he was about to ask Peng Dehuai, Wang Zhen took a letter and said, "Let's go to the war room and read it!"
When Tao Zhiyue opened the envelope and took out the letter inside, she cried with emotion while watching. Peng Dehuai said: "I know what you care about the most is your family. We have arranged them all, it is very safe."
Tao Zhiyue thanked him repeatedly. For him, this was a big event in his heart. After leading a 100,000 people to revolt, he was worried that Chiang Kai-shek would hurt his family, and he could not take the initiative to make requests from our party members. Unexpectedly, President Peng was as careful as he could, and had already made all arrangements.
Chairman Mao invited a meal
In December 1949, the People's Liberation Army entered Xinjiang, and Tao Zhiyue's troops were organized into the 22nd Army of the People's Liberation Army, Tao Zhiyue served as the commander and Wang Zhen served as the political commissar.
In 1950, the Central People's Government issued the "Instructions on the Military Participation in Production and Construction Work in 1950", which also aims to alleviate the pressure on the grain supply of Xinjiang troops and the people.
Wang Zhen said to Tao Zhiyue: "Brothers, let's work together to make the desert an oasis, and the troops can achieve self-sufficiency. Do you have confidence?"
Tao Zhiyue smiled and said: "As long as you have confidence, I will follow you to overcome all obstacles and go through the wind and rain together."
The two generals did what they said, and they led the soldiers into the desert, overcoming all obstacles and clearing land and farming. The two overcame many difficulties with the fearless spirit of revolutionary optimism. After a year of hard work, the military region reclaimed 230,000 mu of land, exceeding the task of reclaiming 200,000 mu of land in one year. In the autumn of 1951, the Xinjiang Military Region has achieved self-sufficiency in vegetables, meat and food, creating miracles.
1952, Wang Zhen and Tao Zhiyue were invited by Chairman Mao to return to Beijing together. After meeting with
, Tao Zhiyue was so excited that he didn't know what to say. Chairman Mao smiled and said, "You are from Ningxiang , Wang Zhen is from Liuyang , I am from Xiangtan , what are the tensions when the fellow villagers meet?"
Chairman Mao's words made Tao Zhiyue and Wang Zhen laugh. Tao Zhiyue held Chairman Mao's hand and said, " "Hello Chairman!"
Wang Zhen laughed and said, "" Chairman, Tao Zhiyue is still a little nervous."
After saying that, all three of them laughed.
At noon that day, Chairman Mao asked the chef to make a sumptuous Hunan cuisine, and the three of them chatted for a long time. When they parted, Chairman Mao told them to pay attention to their health in Xinjiang.
1955, Tao Zhiyue and Wang Zhen were awarded the rank of general.
Join the Communist Party
Tao Zhiyue spent his whole life in his arms. He dreamed of changing the fragmented China and making his own contribution to the development of the country since he was a child. Now he has done it.
1970, Tao Zhiyue resigned due to physical problems and returned to Changsha to recuperate.
When Tao Zhiyue applied to join the party in 1949, he was rejected because he was once the Kuomintang. Since then, he has applied to join the party many times - because becoming a Communist Party member was his greatest wish. In May 1982, the 90-year-old General Tao applied to join the party again. With the approval of the Party Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, on September 28, he finally realized his decades of wish.
Knowing that Tao Zhiyue joined the party, Wang Zhen traveled thousands of miles to Changsha to visit his old friends. After meeting, the two cried with joy and chatted all night long. When Wang Zhen left, Tao Zhiyue could only lie on the bed and watch him leave due to physical reasons. What Wang Zhen did not expect was that this was the last time he met his old friend during his lifetime.
ending
On December 26, 1988, when Wang Zhen received a call from Tao Zhiyue's family, he cried while recalling the years when the two of them had overcome difficulties together. When he learned that Tao Zhiyue had no penny to save after leaving and the child could not even take out the money to buy him a cemetery, he felt like a knife. He said to himself: "Tao Zhiyue is upright and honest, and is a model of our party!"
After learning about Tao Zhiyue's death, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Military Commission held a memorial service for him and properly arranged his funeral.
Vice President of the State and Tao Zhiyue’s close comrade-in-arms at that time Comrade Wang Zhen delivered an eulogy on behalf of the whole party, the army and people of all ethnic groups in the country, and highly praised Tao Zhiyue’s life.
When the eulogy was finished, Wang Zhen burst into tears again...
