After the founding of New China, Chairman Mao attached great importance to the training of state cadres and promoted people with outstanding abilities from local governments many times. However, there are very few people like Ji Dengkui who were promoted to important positions in the central government for exceptional positions.
How much trust was Ji Dengkui by the Chairman back then? The Chairman visited the south many times and almost always called him to see him; the Chairman once called Ji Dengkui an "old friend" in public twice. At the Ninth National Congress, all representatives applauded unanimously when they heard this title;
Chairman invited Ji Dengkui to work in Beijing in 1969, but Ji Dengkui still wanted to work in the local area. After being rejected, the Chairman was not annoyed, and he was allowed to run at both the central and local governments...
Such attention is rare. Why can Ji Dengkui receive such special treatment? It's mainly related to Ji Dengkui's ability!
"Six Questions and Six Answers", I had a good impression of it
In the spring of 1951, Chairman Mao took a special train along the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway to inspect the work. When passing through some important cities, the chairman would ask local cadres to go to the special train to report their work. This is a temporary "big test" for the cadres selected. There are very few people who can deliver satisfactory "answer sheets", and Ji Dengkui happened to be one of them.
When the chairman's special train stopped at Xuchang , he had his first encounter with Ji Dengkui, then deputy secretary of the Xuchang Prefectural Committee and Minister of Propaganda. The Chairman was surprised when he saw Ji Dengkui: You look very young, you are not yet in your thirties, right?
Ji Dengkui replied: Not yet, but it’s too soon, I’m already twenty-eight. The Chairman smiled: I am 58 this year, I am thirty years older than you. I am a little envious of you young and promising young men. After finished sighing, the chairman asked Ji Dengkui to talk about the situation in Xuchang. Although
received the order temporarily, Ji Dengkui calmly told Xuchang's history, culture, customs and customs, land reform in recent years, agricultural production, publicity for resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea, etc.
If you don’t know a city yourself, what can you do to manage it? Ji Dengkui obviously cared about Xuchang, he was a person who did practical things, and his ability to speak so well without writing means that his publicity level was also good, so Chairman Mao looked at him with admiration.
Then, Chairman Mao extended six questions, wanting to see what the young man in front of him is. "Have you been beaten?"
Ji Dengkui thought he could get off the car after the work report, but he didn't expect the chairman to suddenly ask this question, but he reacted very quickly and immediately replied: I have been beaten twice in total. The Chairman nodded: , then I'll be more than you. I've had it three times. In fact, it's also beneficial to get a little bit.
Chairman asked again: , is it right or wrong for someone to mess with you? Ji Dengkui replied: is wrong, both times are wrong. Then he explained the two passes in detail.
After hearing this, the chairman refused to say anything, and then asked the third question: , have you ever messed with someone? Ji Answer: After being slandered, I have been slandered more than I have been slandered. The Chairman’s fourth question: Is there any mistake in ? Ji Answer: Yes, and some of them were missed.
Chairman did not speak for a long time, and when he asked again, he felt a little serious: Have you ever killed someone? Ji Dengkui was stunned, but he could still answer immediately: Killed, and in the past, he killed many people when suppressing bandits and suppressing counter-revolutionaries.
"Is there anyone who killed the wrong one?"
Ji Dengkui did not hesitate: There were also people who killed the wrong ones. The situation was urgent and there was no time to investigate carefully. If the killing was not killed at that time, the impact was too bad, so I gave the order. This is my job not done well.
Six questions seem casual, but they all have profound meanings. These questions of are actually sensitive. Ji Dengkui's answers are neither humble nor arrogant, which proves that he has courage; he did not avoid it in a roundabout way, which proves that he is more honest; he did not shirk responsibility and dared to admit his shortcomings, which proves that he has courage. The Chairman was very satisfied that a young man in his 20s could be so capable.
Of course, the chairman is not a person who listens and believes in the side. After leaving Xuchang, he specially asked someone to investigate and the conclusions he got were the same as Ji Dengkui said. Then, " People's Daily " published "Learn from the Xuchang Regional Experience and Do a Good Job in the Party's Propaganda Work".Soon Ji Dengkui was promoted to the Secretary of the Xuchang Prefectural Committee.
Seeking truth from facts, and being publicly known
Ji Dengkui is not just a person who can talk big. After he was later promoted to a provincial cadre in Henan, he also achieved many achievements. Sometimes the tasks given by his superiors are very high, and he will do it as appropriate. Chen Yun, who had been inspecting Henan, was curious about why he could do a very good job. He replied:
I have a way to call two books. I have no choice but to accept the tasks assigned on it. This is one account, but I have to figure out the actual situation. This is another account. I have to arrange the lives of the masses!
Can be said, capable, and young. Ji Dengkui became a shining star for a moment, and Chairman Mao even deliberately cultivated him vigorously. According to Ji Dengkui's recollection, Chairman Mao summoned him 13 times on the train, and there was almost no second person to be treated like this.
, and Chairman Mao also called Ji Dengkui "old friend" twice in public. The first time was in 1967. Chairman Mao returned to Beijing during the southern tour. The special train stopped for a while when he passed by Zhengzhou. Senior cadres of the party, government and military in Henan Province were ordered to report on the work. In front of everyone, Chairman Mao cordially held Ji Dengkui's hand and said: Old friend, you are here!
The second time was at the Nine National Congress held in April 1969. The meeting arranged for Premier Zhou, Chen Boda, Kang Sheng and other nine people to speak, and Ji Dengkui was the ninth. When it was his turn to go on stage, Chairman Mao introduced to everyone on the rostrum: His name is Ji Dengkui, he has worked in Henan for a long time and is my old friend. The audience burst into thunderous applause instantly. After the meeting ended, Chairman Mao specially met with a group of cadres from the Henan delegation. The Chairman said to Ji Dengkui: If there is no problem with , you should work in Beijing in the future and wait for the Prime Minister's phone number.
This is something that others think is extremely envious, but Ji Dengkui declined on the grounds that he lacks ability and wants to return to Henan to work, which is really shocking.
What’s even more strange is that Chairman Mao was not angry, and when he passed by Zhengzhou the next month, he summoned him to talk about this matter again. Ji Dengkui still declined, but Chairman Mao said: Then Beijing and Henan run at both ends. You don’t want to be a long-term worker. Isn’t it okay to be a short-term worker? Seeing that the chairman was a little angry, Ji Dengkui agreed.
voluntarily resigned, and after retiring
, Ji Dengkui's position became higher and higher, and he served as Vice Premier of the State Council, First Political Commissar of the Beijing Military Region, and Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, and has already belonged to the core leadership.
However, in 1980, Ji Dengkui voluntarily resigned from his leadership position, and Fifth Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee approved his request. Later, he also served as a researcher at the Rural Development Research Center of the State Council and was specially approved to enjoy ministerial treatment.
According to Ji Pomin, the son of Ji Dengkui, Ji Dengkui wanted to teach in college in his later years and wanted to publish a memoir. However, before these two things could be realized, Ji Dengkui died of heart attack in 1988 at the age of 65.
