On September 21, 1952, the first five-star red flag printed and dyed by domestic dyes slowly rose in the courtyard of the Chemical Industry Bureau's Research Office, and nearly a hundred people took off their hats and looked at them. At this moment, they have been waiting for 3 years.
Documentary "New China's First "National Flag Red" Dye"
This five-star red flag is currently saved by China Sinochem . It seems that it is no different from other national flags, but it seems to be a little older. However, this five-star red flag is the first five-star red flag dyed red by the Chinese with the independently developed and produced "national flag red" dye.
"National Flag Red" dye
On October 1, 1949, the People's Republic of China was born, and the five-star red flag slowly rose in Tiananmen Square, , and the whole country was filled with joy. However, China's first national flag was made of foreign dyes. After the celebration, a task was handed over to the Research Office of the Chemical Industry Bureau of the Ministry of Northeast Industry at that time, which was to develop China's own "national flag red" dye.
Northeast Chemical Bureau Research Office is the predecessor of Shenyang Chemical Research Institute , close to my country's largest steel enterprise - Angang . The laboratory has complete experimental raw materials. As China's earliest scientific research department of the chemical industry, the research room has a very strong industrial foundation. However, after receiving this task, the researchers fell into silence. At that time, only chemical dyes in China were produced in three colors: black, white and gray. Red chemical dyes were completely dependent on imports, and no one knew how to make red dyes.
On the one hand, it is an urgent need to fill in the gaps in domestic red dyes; on the other hand, it is a current situation of no information, no drawings, and no experience. Under such circumstances, it is not as simple as expected to develop the "National Flag Red" dye.
Laboratory in the early stage of the establishment of Shenyang Chemical Research Institute
At the beginning of 1950, the Northeast Chemical Bureau Research Office established 7 researchers led by Su Pengfei as the first R&D echelon, and the "National Flag Red" dye R&D team was officially established.
Chinese people are the least lacking in patience and perseverance. From collecting basic chemical dye data at home and abroad, to collecting and borrowing drawings through various channels, to copying various pictures by themselves after self-studying surveying and mapping, they used this most primitive method to promote the research on red dye bit by bit. Because they must study red dyes that are excellent, bright, accurate, high firmness, light and heat resistance, water-resistant, and never fade.
The hard-won Autoclave
After more than a year of experiments, on a day of sweating profusely, the red dye was finally developed successfully. This gave the researchers a sigh of relief. But just 10 days later, bad news came, and the newly dyed fabric faded.
faded means that all previous efforts have become silenced. The news hit the researchers very hard. After checking all the information, they got a keyword - autoclave. Autoclaves are equipment that uses high-pressure color fixing. Only by refining the autoclave with pressure can the dye color be more stable and firmer. However, China at that time did not even have a single autoclave.
The information says that the autoclave is made of stainless steel, but there was no stainless steel in China at that time. Later, the procurement department found a small piece through relationships, and the researchers could only use such a small piece to study and make the autoclave. This hard-earned piece of stainless steel carries the expectations of many people until two months later, a small autoclave gradually took shape. Although the capacity is only 3 liters, it plays an extraordinary role.

Today, dye production is used to us, but at that time, the research and development of "National Flag Red" dye was a major breakthrough in the history of my country's chemical industry.
Five-star red flag that landed on the moon
If this national flag represents the progress of China's chemical materials from scratch, then the other national flag has witnessed the rise of a great power.
On December 15, 2013, the "Yutu" lunar exploration vehicle landed on the moon and raised a five-star red flag on the moon for the first time. The red flag developed by the Research and Design Institute of China Sinochem can not only cope with the temperature difference between nearly 300℃ on the day and night of the moon, but also resist high doses of radiation in space. It can always maintain the bright color of the five-star red flag in the extreme environment of the moon. This is an innovative achievement independently developed by my country and owned independent intellectual property rights.
