At a critical moment of continuous development of space exploration technology, the United States chose to send a chimpanzee to outer space in order to conduct an experiment. In the view of researchers at that time, chimpanzees, as mammals, have certain similarities with humans. They not only have similar appearances, but also have similar genes. If it can survive smoothly, then the astronauts who go to outer space will also have the corresponding living conditions.
According to reports, the chimpanzees sent to outer space in the United States did not choose at will, but first selected 40 chimpanzees with stronger physical fitness and conducted special training. Generally, they have to be trained in simulated space capsules. In the end, a chimpanzee named Hamm performed well and became the target of this outer space exploration mission.
The United States' goal at that time was to launch chimpanzees into space and then return them to Earth with the return device. After 2 years of training, Ham has even mastered the corresponding simple operation skills and will also react to a certain extent when the corresponding sound and light appear. After careful preparation, the United States launched Hamm into space in 1961.
However, during this launch mission, there was a little accident. The flight route was different from the original plan. The aircraft came to space 252 kilometers away from the earth. The content of oxygen here has dropped significantly. This is very dangerous. The aircraft flew approximately 8046 kilometers per hour. This process lasted for a total of 16 minutes, and the aircraft crashed into Atlantic .
The United States also launched the search and rescue work in time. The staff were very nervous, but after successfully finding the return capsule , it was found that Ham was still alive, which was undoubtedly a miracle for those present. From the outside, it seems to be harmed and moves freely. Give it some orange apples, and Ham also ate it with relish.
Although the flight was not long this time, it fully proved the possibility of living creatures living in outer space. But in this experiment, everyone discovered something wrong with Ham. After returning from space, its heart beats very quickly, almost twice as much as before. But the researchers couldn't find the reason. After returning to Earth, the chimpanzee was also properly cared for by staff, but in the end Ham died at the age of 25.
This situation has also attracted the attention of researchers, because the lifespan of normal chimpanzees is about 40 years, and Ham, as an individual with excellent physical fitness, should not be so short. It is precisely because of this that researchers have inferred that although the environment in outer space can allow humans and animals to survive, it will also cause certain harm to it. Then, it will develop, upgrade and transform spacecraft and aviation suits. It has been 61 years since Ham went to space, and now humans have long realized their dream of landing in space.
