In October 1934, after the fifth anti-"encirclement and suppression" of the central base area failed, the Red Army was forced to leave the base area, and the great 25,000-mile Long March began. At that time, Long March was an unknown road. The Red Army did not know that its destination was in northern Shaanxi. In order to facilitate the march, the Red Army headquarters screened the personnel who were about to participate in the Long March, mainly selecting people with strong political strength and good physical conditions to participate in the Long March.
In this context, more than 20 female Red Army soldiers were finally selected, and they also followed the Red Army troops to participate in the subsequent Long March. The person we are going to talk about today is one of the female Red Army who participated in the Long March. Her name is Li Bozhao, and she is Yang Shangkun’s wife. So, what is the story about Li Bozhao?
Li Bozhao was born in 1911 and is from Chongqing. In his early years, Li Bozhao mainly studied in his hometown. She had good academic performance and was admitted to Sichuan No. 2 Women's Normal School. At that time, there was a teacher named Xiao Chunu. She was a staunch revolutionary and an early member of our party. She secretly promoted our party's revolutionary thoughts as a cover in the school.
During that period, Li Bozhao was also deeply influenced by Xiao Chumeng and began to come into contact with Marxism-Leninism and developed a strong interest in Marxism-Leninism. In 1925, Li Bozhao joined the Communist Youth League. Since then, she began to accept the guidance of our party and participated in student sports in Sichuan and Shanghai, and performed very well. In order to cultivate Li Bozhao, in 1926, the organization sent her to the Soviet Union and allowed her to study in , Sun Yat-sen University, Moscow.
1928, Li Bozhao graduated from Sun Yat-sen University in Moscow. After graduation, she stayed at school to teach and mainly engaged in translation work. It was also during her time in Moscow that Li Bozhao met love. In 1929, she and Yang Shangkun got married. In 1930, Li Bozhao returned to the country from the Soviet Union. In 1931, Li Bozhao was organized to the Soviet area in western Fujian, mainly engaged in political propaganda work. Soon after, he was sent to Ruijin , where Li Bozhao experienced the anti-"encirclement and suppression" battle in the central base.
October 1934, after the failure of the fifth anti-"encirclement and suppression", Li Bozhao followed the Red Army troops to participate in the Long March. It is worth mentioning that during the Long March, Li Bozhao had an achievement that few people could match. This achievement was that Li Bozhao not only followed Central Red Army to participate in the Long March, but also followed Red Fourth Front Army and Red Second Front Army to participate in the Long March. Almost no one achieved this achievement. Among our party's senior cadres, a male comrade also achieved it. This person is Li Jingquan. However, among the female comrades, the author has only found Li Bozhao.
1935, the First Red Army and the Fourth Red Army met. In order to strengthen the construction of the Fourth Red Army, a group of cadres were transferred to the Fourth Red Army, including Li Bozhao. In 1936, the Second Red Front Army met with the Fourth Red Front Army, and Li Bozhao was transferred to the Second Red Front Army. In other words, Li Bozhao's three main forces in the Red Army participated in the Long March.
After the founding of New China, Li Bozhao successively served as the president of Beijing People's Art Theater , secretary of the Beijing Municipal Cultural Committee, and deputy director of , and has done a lot of basic work for the cultural construction of New China. After the special period of ten years began, Li Bozhao was also impacted, but she was determined, and after that period, she also waited for her husband's comeback. In 1985, Li Bozhao died of illness in Beijing at the age of 74.
It is worth mentioning that Li Bozhao and her husband Yang Shangkun had three children, two sons and one daughter. Among them, her daughter was named Yang Li. She worked in the Beijing TV Factory. Later, she joined the army and entered the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army. She was awarded the rank of major general. She is one of the few female generals in our army.
