Guangdong Province stretches across the southern coast of China and is adjacent to Hong Kong. After 1978, this land has become a test site for reform and opening up. It has opened its eyes and seen the world first. The scene of Shenzhen Shekou opening up the "mountain cannon" is still vivid in my mind. Today, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has played an important role.

"Story of Spring" can be told today because generations of Guangdong cadres and the masses have used the courage to be the first and the spirit of burying their backbone to implement the party's policies. Lin Ruo is an outstanding cadre who has worked hard in the wave of reform, and his life experience is also legendary.

Lin Ruo was born in Chao'an, Guangdong in 1924. His family made a living by dye business. Lin's father was well-managed and his family was prosperous. Lin Ruo's natural living conditions were relatively superior when he was young. During his growth, both bourgeois revolutionary thought and communist thought flourished in Guangdong. Lin’s father was open-minded and broad-minded, and sent him to a new school to study. When he was young, he not only read the Four Books and Five Classics, but also dabbled in geography and mathematics, and read literary works from many countries.

But this beautiful life was completely broken because of the arrival of the invaders. In 1938, Chao'an fell under the iron hoof of the Japanese army. In order to avoid the war, Lin Ruo was wandering around with his family. He saw many crimes of the Japanese army along the way. Seeing the tragic situation of the broken mountains and rivers and the people's miserable lives, Lin Ruo was extremely sad and angry, and he urgently hoped to do something for the motherland.

After the family settled down, Lin Ruo studied at Meixian Dongshan Middle School . During this period, he came into contact with communist thought and felt that he had found a way to save the country and the people, so he devoted himself to the anti-Japanese and national salvation movement.

1945, he was admitted to Sun Yat-sen University and studied in the School of Literature. This year, the Japanese invaders were driven out of the motherland and Lin Ruo officially became a party member. He actively promoted the party's thoughts among his classmates and developed the party's team. He was also targeted by the Kuomintang. He turned to the area around Dongjiang to carry out his work and contributed his strength in the War of Liberation.

1949, he was responsible for land reform in Zhujiang , Zhongshan and other places. He devoted his efforts to make the farmers who had just walked out of the haze of war get arable land and resume production and life.

His seriousness and responsibility for his work were also recognized by his superiors. In 1977, he became the secretary of the prefectural party committee of Zhanjiang . At that time, agricultural production in Zhanjiang stagnated due to years of "eating big pot rice". Farmers had no motivation and the economy did not improve. After many research and thinking, Lin Ruo decided to try the "contracting production to households" method. This was undoubtedly a bold idea at the time, so he naturally encountered many difficulties.

However, the final result proved that Lin Ruo's idea was correct. The Tan Ge Brigade who participated in his experiment not only handed over public grain, but each household also had surplus grain for the New Year. Other places also quickly adopted Lin Ruo's method to achieve a bumper harvest.

His daring to think and bold innovation have become more useful after the reform and opening up. In 1985, he took office as Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee. At that time, Guangzhou achieved many achievements in the early stages of reform and opening up, but also faced many challenges. The first thing he faced was the problem of unbalanced regional development. For this reason, he went to the mountains, went to factories, conducted personal research, developed transportation, drove specialties, helped the development of mountainous areas, and effectively promoted the coordinated development of Guangdong.

In order to improve the environment in Guangdong, he proposed the goal of "greening Guangdong for ten years". He went to the mountainous areas to plant trees and mobilized leading cadres at all levels to plant trees. Until today, the forest greening rate of Guangdong Province is still among the best in the country.

At the same time, Lin Ruo is very simple in life. Every time he goes to the countryside for research, he travels lightly and simplifies his car. He has been driving an old van for many years because he knows that he is not a show off, but a practical thing for the people. When he goes to work and gets off work, he either walks or rides a bicycle, which is no different from an ordinary person. The furnishings at home are so simple that they are ashamed to meet guests. When Wang Guangmei arrived at his home, she saw his simple pieces of furniture and expressed her admiration and affirmation to him.

In 2012, 89-year-old Lin (virtually) left us forever. He has practiced his original intention of serving the country throughout his life. It is precisely because of the group of such good cadres that the people can live and work more peacefully. I believe that in the future, Guangdong will continue to develop rapidly under the leadership of outstanding leading cadres and usher in more glory.
