According to the movie, in the process of encircling and annihilation of Liao Yaoxiang's corps in the East Field Army, the 2nd Liaonan Independent Division made extraordinary achievements. However, this statement caused controversy later. The elderly people from the 8th Column of Dongye said that the 8th Column of Liao Yaoxiang gave up the attack from Yingkou was the fundamental reason. But Liao Yaoxiang and Shenyang's Wei Lihuang each have their own ideas. One wants to go to Yingkou and the other wants to retreat to Shenyang. As a result, the precious week was wasted in vain in disputes between all parties.
Until the evening of October 20, the Changchun defenders surrendered and Lin Biao made up his mind to wipe out the Liao Bing Regiment. The Jiang family finally gave up the idea of counterattacking Jinzhou and approved the plan of Liao's regiment to leave Yingkou. If the Liao Corps wants to go to Yingkou, they must go to Heishan and to the east and south of Dahushan, so they launched a new round of fierce attacks on Heishan and Dahushan.
Liao's attack was even more fierce than before, so that Lin Biao, who had a very keen judgment on the battlefield, also had an illusion that the Liao's regiment was going to retreat to Jinzhou, "there is no war to fight in Yingkou". The task assigned to each column was to block the head and the tail and fight the middle, and the battlefield was set between Zhangwu and Xinlitun.
However, the situation of the battle changed very quickly, and even Lin Biao, who had always made perfect plans, could not control the trend of the battlefield. Liao's regiment is indeed going to go to Yingkou, and Tai'an is the only way to go. The main force of the East Field Army in southern Liaoning was originally the 4th Column, but after the Liaoshen Campaign started, the 4th Column headed to the Beining Line and participated in the Attack and Jin operation. Therefore, the troops left in southern Liaoning were the 2nd Independent Division of the Military Region. Chairman had long judged that the Liao regiment might withdraw from the sea channel in Yingkou, so during the Battle of Jin, Lin Biao repeatedly reminded Lin Biao to send troops to control Yingkou. However, Lin Biao, who was busy with trouble, neglected this reminder, which led to the attack on Yingkou in one day after the 52nd Army of Chiang Kai-shek's army dispatched from Anshan , and there were almost no blockade along the way.

Whether it can completely wipe out Liao's regiment lies in whether it can block its route to escape south. The 30th Division of the 10th Column, which was in charge of the defense of Dahushan, was worried that the Liao regiment would detour from the south, so the division commander Fang Qiang sent someone to send a letter to Duan Suquan, commander of the 8th Column, asking the 8th Column to ensure the safety of their right wing of the division. 23rd Division was marching to a place called Liujianfang, it encountered the 105th Division of the 49th Army of Liao's regiment. After a day of fierce battle, Chiang Kai-shek's army was forced to shrink northward. Through interrogation of the prisoners, it was learned that the 105th Division was the vanguard division of the entire Liao Corps, and the purpose of going south was to go to Yingkou through Tai'an. The 8th Column immediately reported this information to Lin Biao, and the complex battle situation was immediately sorted out.
Jiang Jun each side had their own plans. Zheng Tingji, the commander of the 49th Army, did not tell Liao Yaoxiang about the blockade of the 105th Division, nor did he tell the friendly New 6th Army. Instead, he directly reported to Wei Lihuang in Shenyang, and made the battle situation extremely serious. As a result, he received the order he wanted most - to withdraw back to Shenyang.
At this time, Liao Yaoxiang was still leading his troops to attack Heishan and Dahushan. He wanted to buy time for the subsequent troops to flee south. He knew nothing about the 49th Army's plan to withdraw to Shenyang, and his corps headquarters was accidentally knocked out by a battalion of the 3rd Column, which made it even worse. In the end, Chiang Kai-shek's army fled south and was forced to turn east in Tai'an, and the plan to withdraw from Yingkou in the south was shattered.
In the key operation of cutting off the Liao army's road to escape south by escaping Yingkou, the 2nd Liaoning Independent Division and the 8th Column played a major role. They should have made objective statements when describing historical facts, and it is not advisable to favor one and the other.
During the entire encirclement and annihilation battle in western Liaoning, the 8th Column of the East Field Army annihilated most of the 22nd Division, one division of the 6th Army and one division of the 3rd Army in the New Army, and one division of the 11,000 enemies were killed, wounded and captured, playing a key role.
