  • [Foreword]

In 1976, the great Chairman Mao left us forever. Hua Guofeng, then First Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Premier of the State Council, endured great grief, took over the important responsibilities left by Chairman Mao, and led everyone through those special years.

He is aboveboard, honest and self-disciplined, taking the overall situation into consideration, and has won widespread praise.

In 1980, Hua Guofeng no longer served as Prime Minister of the State Council. In 1981, Hua Guofeng resigned from important positions such as Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Military Commission, and spent his later years in a low-key and peaceful manner.

If you take a closer look at Hua Guofeng's family, you will find that none of his four children are named "Hua", but "Su". Only one granddaughter is named "Hua". Why is this?

  • [Serve the country wholeheartedly by Hua Guofeng]

After those special years, Hua Guofeng concurrently held important positions such as Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and Prime Minister of the State Council, and devoted himself wholeheartedly to the work of building the motherland, making the party and the country Normal order was restored.

Shortly after he became Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Qian Sijie, Chairman Mao's full-time photographer, also came to Hua Guofeng's side. At that time, Qian Sijie was very puzzled about something: Why are several of Hua Guofeng's children named Su instead of Hua? After staying with Hua Guofeng for a long time, Qian Sijie realized that this was related to Hua Guofeng's previous revolutionary experience.

Hua Guofeng was born in 1921 in his hometown of Jiaocheng County, Shanxi Province.

Hua Guofeng is not his original name. His original surname is Su, and his name is Su Zhu.

Su Zhu has been a person who cares about national affairs since he was a child. In order to serve the motherland, he studied hard and achieved excellent results, which was deeply loved by his teachers. After the July 7th Incident in 1937, Su Zhu resolutely participated in the anti-Japanese and national salvation movement.

In 1938, 17-year-old Hua Guofeng joined the anti-Japanese guerrillas of the Sacrifice League in Jiaocheng County, Shanxi. At that time, he accidentally saw a sentence - "Pioneers of the Chinese nation to resist Japan and save the country." He liked this sentence very much and happened to join the guerrillas. The team needed a pseudonym, so he changed his name to Hua Guofeng based on this sentence.

Since then, he has been known by this name.

Later, after Hua Guofeng got married and had children, the children continued to use the surname Su. Because few people know Hua Guofeng’s real name, they naturally don’t know why his child’s surname is Su and not Hua.

In October 1938, Hua Guofeng joined the Communist Party of China and became a glorious Communist Party member. After that, he successively served as the captain of the guerrillas and the secretary of the Jiaocheng County Committee of the Communist Party of China. During his tenure, he was conscientious and cautious, and often went deep into the people to understand their situation. It is precisely because of his serious and dedicated attitude that he will be appreciated by Chairman Mao in the near future.

In 1949, Hua Guofeng was transferred to Hunan and served as Secretary of the Xiangyin County Committee of Hunan Province. After the founding of New China, Hua Guofeng rose to the position of Secretary of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. It was during this period that Chairman Mao noticed Hua Guofeng.

  • [Anecdotes between Hua Guofeng and Chairman Mao]

In 1953, Hua Guofeng, who was the secretary of the Xiangtan County Party Committee in Hunan Province, suddenly received the task of reporting to Chairman Mao. He immediately rushed from Xiangtan to Zhuzhou .

Hua Guofeng usually works meticulously and has a good understanding of agricultural and commercial issues of the masses. He can answer Chairman Mao's questions, but after all, he was talking to Chairman Mao, so he couldn't help but feel a little nervous, and his face turned red.

Even Chairman Mao laughed unconsciously and said with a smile: "You young man is still sinking. You must go deep into the masses and seek truth from facts!" Chairman Mao's words "Go deep into the masses and seek truth from facts" made China Feng will be remembered for life.

In October 1955, the Sixth (Enlarged) Plenary Session of the Seventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing. Hua Guofeng also attended this meeting.During the break of the meeting, when Chairman Mao met Hua Guofeng, he specially introduced it to other leaders: "This young man is my parent official, and he is an honest man."

Hua Guofeng was praised by Chairman Mao At the meeting after the break, Chairman Mao recommended Hua Guofeng to introduce his work experience at the meeting. Hua Guofeng carefully analyzed the problems existing in the work and received widespread attention from everyone.

In 1965, Chairman Mao was about to leave Changsha for Jinggangshan, Hua Guofeng, who was then Secretary of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Xiangtan Prefectural Committee, went to greet Chairman Mao in person. In May, Hua Guofeng, Wang Dongxing and others accompanied Chairman Mao on his return trip to Jinggangshan.

Hua Guofeng and Wang Dongxing worked together to do relevant work for Chairman Mao along the way. This work was very important, and it was enough to leave it to Hua Guofeng to show that Chairman Mao valued him.

In 1971, Hua Guofeng was transferred to work in the State Council. As they got along slowly, Chairman Mao paid more and more attention to Hua Guofeng. In February 1975, Hua Guofeng was confirmed as one of the executive vice prime ministers. After Premier Zhou's death, Hua Guofeng served as Acting Prime Minister of the State Council according to Chairman Mao's proposal.

At the beginning of 1976, Chairman Mao thought repeatedly and believed that Hua Guofeng had worked in county committees, prefectural committees, and provincial committees, and had very rich experience in mass work. After being transferred to the central government, he still worked conscientiously and accumulated new knowledge in the work of the party, government, and military. experience, so he was chosen as his successor.

After taking over the heavy responsibility, Hua Guofeng successfully led China out of that special period.

And in his later years, he decided to become an ordinary person again.

In 1980, Hua Guofeng no longer served as Prime Minister of the State Council. In June 1981, Hua Guofeng resigned from his positions as Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission at the Sixth Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. During this period, although he was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China 4 times, his symbolic significance far exceeded its actual significance.

So, how did Hua Guofeng spend his later years?

  • [Only one granddaughter named Hua, with outstanding appearance and temperament]

Hua Guofeng had four children in his life, two sons named Su Hua and Su Bin, and two daughters named Su Li and Su Ling. Under the guidance of their parents' words and deeds, their styles are as low-key and simple as Hua Guofeng's.

Hua Guofeng is not very strict in his discipline of his children. He just often teaches them to work hard. One thing is very important, that is, you must be a frugal person and not be extravagant or wasteful. The children keep Hua Guofeng's teachings in mind, and they are always very simple, whether in work or life, and never show off outside that they are Hua Guofeng's children.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Hua Guofeng has a granddaughter named "Hua". Why is this?

Hua Jiezhen is the only child in the Hua family with the surname Hua. The reason why her granddaughter is named "Hua" is because the name "Hua Guofeng" has run through his entire political career and has deep emotions. The surname is Hua to ensure the spread of the spirit.

Hua Jiezhen has outstanding appearance and temperament. She inherited Hua Guofeng's low-key style, and there is little information about her from the outside world. But what we can believe is that Hua Jiezhen will definitely inherit Hua Guofeng’s red spirit just like she inherited Hua Guofeng’s surname.

  • [Hua Guofeng’s later life]

After retiring from his post, Hua Guofeng lives with his wife Han Zhijun and several children in the No. 9 compound in Xihuangchenggen, Beijing.

Han Zhijun is from Wutai County, Shanxi Province, 10 years younger than Hua Guofeng. His father, Han Qihai, served as the captain of the Wutai County guerrillas during the Anti-Japanese War and was very brave in fighting the enemy. The father of a tiger has no dog daughter. When he was less than 15 years old, Han Junzhi, who performed well in school, was recommended to join the Communist Party of China.

In 1948, Han Zhijun and Hua Guofeng met in Yu County, Shanxi.

At that time, Han Zhijun liked literature and art and often participated in performances. Hua Guofeng often went to see her performances.Under the introduction of the Secretary of the Yu County Party Committee, the two began to know each other, fell in love with each other, and had the same mind. In November of this year, the two got married and have been in love for a lifetime.

In life, Hua Guofeng was a very approachable old man. In his later years, he especially liked to make things like flowers and plants. In 1983, because he wanted to learn the techniques of growing grapes, he went to a suburban vineyard to learn how to grow grapes. After hearing about this, some park staff who were good at growing fruit trees would come to him to discuss his experience.

When a reporter came to interview Hua Guofeng in 1988, there were already two large grape trellises in the yard of the Hua family. As soon as you entered the yard of the Hua family, you could see green. When the harvest comes, it will be covered with heavy bunches of grapes, and there will probably be many swallows' nests on it.

Hua Guofeng told reporters that at its peak, fifty or sixty grape trellises could be planted in this yard. When the grapes grow, he will also give some to the troops so that the soldiers can have a taste.

However, Hua Guofeng himself is not so blessed. Because of his physical condition, he can only eat one or two grapes like this.

It turns out that in the mid-1970s, Hua Guofeng was diagnosed with diabetes . For health reasons, his diet was strictly controlled, and his staple food was even accurate to 2 taels and 8 yuan. Sometimes Hua Guofeng would be greedy and want to eat more, but only with Han Zhijun's permission.

Once when we were having dumplings at home, Hua Guofeng had already eaten a dozen, but he still wanted to eat, so he had to look at Han Zhijun. Han Zhijun felt really sorry for him, so he relaxed and made an exception to let him eat two more. Hua Guofeng was very happy about this.

In addition to grape trellises, there are many fruit trees such as apples and peaches in the yard. These elders manage them personally and even have experience. Even if the grapes do not grow, they will know what they will look like in the future.

When he has nothing to do, Hua Guofeng especially likes to practice calligraphy quietly. His calligraphy has been unanimously praised by everyone. The most famous ones are the characters "Mao Zedong Memorial Hall". The living room of the Hua family also shows Hua Guofeng's simple and plain style. The layout of the living room is the same as Chairman Mao's study. Looking at the entire living room, you can see books almost everywhere.

It can be seen that Hua Guofeng’s life in his later years was still very warm and comfortable.

In addition, Hua Guofeng lived a very low-key life in his later years and generally did not go out easily. On the one hand, he was physically inconvenient, and on the other hand, he wanted to avoid causing trouble to the public. Once he went to a temple fair wearing a mask, and was recognized by the crowd. Everyone surrounded Hua Guofeng enthusiastically, but it also caused chaos. Finally, with the help of security guards, Hua Guofeng took advantage of the situation. The car left there.

If he is recognized by the crowd when he goes out, he will not admit that he is Hua Guofeng to avoid unnecessary trouble.

However, there are two days in a year when Hua Guofeng must go out. These two days are related to Chairman Mao: one is Chairman Mao's birthday, and the other is Chairman Mao's death anniversary. On the anniversary of Chairman Mao’s death, Hua Guofeng and his family will go to the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall to pay homage to the great man’s remains and remember him.

Hua Guofeng spent his whole life serving the country and the people. Even when he was idle at home, he never forgot to educate young people.

In December 2007, when photographer Qian Sijie, who had been with him for many years, went to visit Hua Guofeng, he was already not in good health, but Hua Guofeng still tirelessly told the young man who was traveling with Qian Sijie People, tell him to be honest and do things sincerely. Finally, Hua Guofeng also told Qian Sijie to go among the masses and seek truth from facts. This was Chairman Mao's instruction to him.

Hua Guofeng remembered this instruction all his life.

At that time, Qian Sijie saw that Hua Guofeng looked good, so he took a photo of him. Who would have thought that this would become the last time Qian Sijie took a photo of Hua Guofeng...

Due to the deterioration of his condition, During the year of 2008, Hua Guofeng was admitted to the hospital three times, but in the end he could not resist the disease. On August 20, Hua Guofeng died of illness and left us forever...

  • [Conclusion]
