Zhao Cunxin, a representative of the Yi ethnic group, opened the glittering golden umbrella early, held it in his hand and walked onto the rostrum together with Dao Shixun, the "last Dai King", and dedicated the golden umbrella to Chairman Mao.

At 7:30 pm on October 4, 1950, Chairman Mao and other party and state leaders received delegations of various ethnic groups at Huairen Hall in Zhongnanhai, Beijing. Representative of the Yi ethnic group Zhao Cunxin opened the glittering golden umbrella early, held it in his hand and walked onto the rostrum together with Dao Shixun, the "last Dai King", and dedicated the golden umbrella to Chairman Mao. "Dear Chairman Mao, the people of all ethnic groups in Xishuangbanna have entrusted us to dedicate this golden umbrella to you. Please accept it." Zhao Cunxin said excitedly.

Chairman Mao saw that this long-handled golden umbrella was very special. He took it and looked at it carefully, tried to shrink and expand it, and then handed it to the staff. He held the hands of Zhao Cunxin and Dao Shixun and said happily: "Thank you to the people of all ethnic groups in Xishuangbanna. I believe that the liberated Xishuangbanna will be built more beautiful and richer under the banner of socialism." Then, Dao Cheng Zong, Dao Huifang and other representatives presented Chairman Mao with Beiye Sutra, Pu'er tea and Dai nationality national costumes respectively. Chairman Mao cordially shook hands and paid tribute to them one by one.
