To raise funds, she and her husband sold their 6-month-old son. People only learned about it from the eulogy.

1935 was the most difficult year for the party organization. During the Long March, the large army was surrounded and intercepted by the national army. The danger was all around; the comrades who stayed in the base area to fight guerrilla were shrouded in white terror and struggled to survive; Comrades working underground are also full of difficulties.

In February 1935, the Shanghai Central Bureau was destroyed. More than 30 comrades headed by the secretary Huang Wenjie were arrested and suffered heavy losses. In March, a three-person team led by Liu Zhonghua, He Changzhi, and Puhua people formed the Shanghai Provisional The Central Bureau, unfortunately, in July, the Central Bureau was destroyed again. Not only were more than 40 people arrested, but also some important documents such as organizations, personnel, and contact addresses were searched by the enemy. The Shanghai Provisional Central Bureau ended.

The destruction of the Shanghai Central Bureau has also caused many comrades to lose contact with the organization. This is the case with the Northern Bureau , which is responsible for underground work in Zhili, Shanxi, Shandong, Henan, Inner Mongolia, and Manchuria.

What's more unfortunate is that at that time, North China suffered from a severe drought, the land was thousands of miles away, the organization lost contact with the organization, and the source of funding was lost, leaving the local comrades in trouble. The most pressured one was the time. Gao Wenhua, director of the Northern Bureau and Secretary of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee, and his lover Jia Lian.

At that time, Jia Lian was in charge of the financial work of the provincial party committee, organizing activities required funds, transportation personnel had to travel on business, and the landlord urged the rent. Although Gao Wenhua tried to contact other underground organizations, he also took comrades to the countryside to fight for landlords and eat big households. However, in the face of natural disasters, the landlord’s family had no surplus. This action had little effect, and some comrades were even hungry and could not afford to move.

The long-term hard work has also caused Gao Wenhua to suffer from tuberculosis. He often vomits blood. If he has no money to buy medicine, he can only drink salt water to reduce inflammation. Their two young daughters often don't have enough food.

Once, the two daughters were so hungry that they could not bear it, they secretly caught the locusts outside to eat. Because of this, Gao Wenhua got angry and beat the two daughters. The reason is no other reason. Their public identities are businessmen and rich people. How can your child eat locusts? This may reveal identity.

Seeing her husband getting thinner,Jia Lian felt distressed and decided to take off the bacon that was hung at the door to fill the front of the house for her husband, but Gao Wenhua stopped it because they used it to fill the front.

Thinking hard, but unable to find a source of funding, Jia Lian thought of his three children. At that time, Gao Wenhua and Jia Lian’s two daughters were 11 and 8 years old, and their son was only 6 months old.

In the old society, girls were sold, and their fate was mostly miserable, but the son was different. Basically, they were bought back home and passed on from generation to generation. So, at night, Jia Yan asked her husband to discuss the matter. .

This is the only son of Gao Wenhua and Jia Lian. They are white and fat and very cute. The couple are reluctant to give up, but for the sake of revolution and organization, they can only sell this child in tears.

A few days later, this child was sold to Tangshan, a female worker. Jia Lian personally signed the name on the contract of “no contact after the sale, no visit”. As a mother, how much she felt at that time The pain can be imagined.

The son of was sold for 50 Yuan, relying on the 50 Yuan and some money raised by other comrades, Gao Wenhua and Jia Lian not only maintained the expenses of the Northern Bureau for half a year, but also in December 1935, the Northern Bureau The Hebei Provincial Party Committee also directed the "December Nineth Movement" and pushed the Chinese People's Anti-Japanese Democratic Movement to a climax.

It’s just that, except for a few people, everyone doesn’t know what Gao Wenhua and Jia Lian have done during this period. When someone asks about their son, Jia Lian is always silent.

Actually, this is not the first child sold by Gao Wenhua and Jia Lian for the revolution.

Gao Wenhua, formerly known as Liao Jianfan, was born in Yiyang , Hunan. His father was a literati. He participated in the Tongmenghui in his early years and later taught at Yiyang County National Primary School.

Due to poor family background,Gao Wenhua worked as an apprentice at a tempeh workshop at the age of 13, and later went to a grocery store as a clerk.

Jia Lian is 2 years older than Gao Wenhua. Gao Wenhua’s father is close friends with Jia Lian’s father. The two have been married since childhood. At the age of 16, Jia Lian’s father died of illness and the family was in trouble, so Jia Lian was sent to Liao Home Be a child bride.

For Jia Lian, Gao Wenhua was not satisfied at the beginning. First, he resisted arranged marriages. Second, Jia Lian's culture was low and did not meet Gao Wenhua's mate selection standards.

Jia Lian, who first came to Liao’s house, was in a very bad situation. Not only Gao Wenhua was indifferent to her, but even her mother-in-law looked down on her.

When Gao Wenhua’s father learned about this, he sent Jia Lian to the Yiyang County Girls’ School to study. Here, Jia Lian not only learned life skills such as sewing, but also accepted new ideas and joined the anti-imperialist patriotic movement.

And Gao Wenhua, when he was 14 years old, went to work as a worker in an electric light company in Changsha, and in 1922, he entered the Hunan Changsha Self-study University founded by Mao Zedong and He Shuheng.

With the continuous improvement of knowledge, Gao Wenhua also understands the truth. Arranged marriage is done by parents. Jia Lian is not wrong, she is also one of the victims, so Gao Wenhua, who has been away from home for a few years Once I wrote a pen to Jia Lian: " ...In the past, I stood on the side of feudal forces to oppress you. It's really too much... You want to organize female compatriots to participate in social anti-feudal activities... ".

A letter quickly brought Gao Wenhua and Jia Lian closer. After that, Gao Wenhua successively sent progressive books such as "Guide", "Pioneer", "New Youth" to Jia Lian, and Jia Lian's thoughts quickly sublime.

Also in this year, 17-year-old Gao Wenhua and 19-year-old Jia Lian married. After marriage, Jia Lian followed Gao Wenhua to start a revolutionary struggle. During this period, Gao Wenhua gave himself a new name "Liao Quyi" .

June 1923,Gao Wenhua returned to Yiyang to enter a knitting factory for leading the workers' strike and continued the struggle.

In 1925, Gao Wenhua was organized and sent to Guangzhou and entered the Peasant Movement Training Institute. During this period, Gao Wenhua participated in the famous provincial-Hong Kong strike.

Before the Northern Expedition, Gao Wenhua was appointed by the organization again to become the "Hunan Provincial Peasant Movement Special Representative", and returned to his hometown Yiyang to organize the Agricultural Association and start the peasant movement.

Thanks to Gao Wenhua’s efforts, 3,000 people participated in the 1926 Lantern Festival parade and demonstration. In addition, Gao Wenhua also opened a civilian school and a civilian factory, which greatly improved the minds of the people in Yiyang.

In 1927, when the Martian Incident broke out, Gao Wenhua had no choice but to leave Yiyang and seek refuge in Shishou, Hunan. Although the environment at the time was very harsh, Gao Wenhua did not shrink from this. Instead, he arrived in Shanghai after untold hardships, found an organization, and went to . Started work in Hankou, Wuhan, Hanyang, Shanghai, Shandong and other places.

In 1932, Jia Lian gave birth to another son after giving birth to two daughters for Gao Wenhua.

At that time, Gao Wenhua served as the head of the "Internal Traffic Division" in the Shanghai Central Organization Department. However, the situation was not optimistic at the time. With Gu Shunzhang's rebellion, more than 20 secret institutions were destroyed. Yun Daiying, Cai Hesen and others were successively destroyed. The arrest was brutally killed.

In this environment, Gao Wenhua, the head of the Department of Internal Medicine, and his wife Jia Lian, successively protected Qu Qiubai, Lu Xun, and Miss Xia from danger.

In such a situation, the birth of a child will definitely cause trouble for revolutionary work. After discussion, Gao Wenhua, Jia Lian and his wife decided to sell their son who was only 3 weeks old to Shanghai Yuyingtang.

Unfortunately, the child died the next day after arriving in the nursery. This became the life pain of the husband and wife, but this pain was experienced again in 1935.

After "Jan Twenty Nine", Gao Wenhua, Jia Lian and his wife went to Yan'an. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, they were assigned by the organization,Go to Hunan, Chongqing and other places to work.

Immediately after the War of Liberation broke out, the two who were busy with the revolution never had the opportunity to find a child. Until the founding of New China, the husband and wife had no time to spare.

They first searched in Tangshan, and then entrusted the Hebei Public Security Bureau to help. The final reply was that their child was eight or nine years old, due to an epidemic, and the foster mother had both Die.

It is conceivable how heartache Gao Wenhua and Jia Lian are when they heard that the child has passed away, but the couple never mentioned this child and endured the pain alone.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Gao Wenhua successively served as Director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Industry, Deputy Minister of Light Industry, and Deputy Minister of Fisheries. Jia Lian served as a member of the Women’s Committee of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee, the first deputy director of the Beijing Electric Power Bureau, and the Ministry of Electric Power Deputy Director of the Supervision Department, Deputy Director of the Hydrographic Bureau of the Ministry of Water and Electricity, etc.

Although the positions of the husband and wife are not high, they are conscientious in their respective positions and contribute to the new China. However, when the catastrophe came, the couple who dedicated a lot to the revolution did not escape the tragic fate.

Gao Wenhua was imprisoned in Qincheng Prison for 8 years, while Jia Lian was also persecuted. Fortunately, the husband and wife helped each other and they both came through this period of suffering.

In 1981, Jia Lian passed away first at the age of 78. Before his death, Jia Lian gave the organization the 10,000 yuan he saved by saving money during his lifetime as the last party dues.

At Jia Lian’s memorial service, in ’s eulogy, Jia Lian’s selling of his son in exchange for funds was mentioned again and was known to the public .

In 1994, Gao Wenhua passed away at the age of 90.

In fact, in the war years, like Gao Wenhua and Jia Lian, there were many couples who abandoned their children for the revolution. Li Zhaolin, the commander-in-chief of the Third Army of the Anti-Union Army, was afraid that the cry of children would attract the enemy.Put the child deep in the mountains; underground party member Lu Zhiying hung a 3-month-old child on a jujube tree in order to cover his comrades; Zhu Shunhua, who stood by the secret and watched his 2-year-old son die tragically in front of him... .

It is precisely because of these revolutionary predecessors that they have made a happy life today. Today, their deeds should be known to more people.
