Liao Chengzhi's life was full of legends, and his marriage and love with his wife were as colorful as his life, leaving behind a moving and graceful story of love.
There will be a day when we meet
Liao Chengzhi's wife Jing Puchun is the daughter of Jing Hengyi . Jing Hengyi is from Shangyu, Zhejiang. He Xiangning’s neighbor in Guangyufang, Shanghai and He Xiangning’s old friend. After studying in Japan in his early years, he later joined the revolution. He served as an executive member of the Kuomintang Central Committee and acting president of Sun Yat-sen University. He is a famous educator and painter of gold and stone. After Chiang Kai-shek rebelled against the revolution, Jing Hengyi sent himself with calligraphy, painting, and calligraphy, and organized the "Friends of Cold Society" with He Xiangning, Liu Yazi, Chen Shuren and others, and often recite poems and paintings together. In early 1933, Jing Puchun came to Shanghai from his hometown in Zhejiang to visit his father. Because He Xiangning's children are not around, she often helps He Xiangning with some housework. She respectfully called He Xiangning "Auntie", while He Xiangning nicknamed her "Apu", treating her like her own daughter.
Liao Chengzhi is grateful to Jing Puchun for his careful care of his mother. In his opinion, this 16-year-old girl is not particularly beautiful, but she is simple, simple, full of youthful vitality. As the number of contacts increased, Liao Chengzhi fell in love with Jing Puchun deeply. Liao Chengzhi is a handsome and handsome man, and Jing Puchun also fell in love with him at first sight.
In August 1933, the Communist Party of China notified Liao Chengzhi to go to the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area, but Jing Puchun was in his hometown in Zhejiang at this time, and Liao Chengzhi felt a little melancholy. Before leaving, Liao Chengzhi left a letter to Jing Puchun, and wrote with deep affection: "If you really love me, please wait for me for another two years..."
Liao Chengzhi said goodbye to his loving mother and moved to the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area. Soon, he was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area Provincial Party Committee and Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Federation of Trade Unions, and was later transferred to the Secretary-General of the General Political Department of the Red Fourth Front Army.
In the winter of 1936, Liao Chengzhi followed the Long March troops to northern Shaanxi and worked at Yan'an Red China News Service (the predecessor of Xinhua News Agency) and was very busy. He immediately wrote a letter to his mother who was far away in Shanghai and Apu whom he missed day and night. Three years ago, he hoped Apu would wait for him for another two years. What's wrong with Apu now? Are you still waiting for him? This made him worry and be in love with him. He sent several letters to his mother and Apu in a row to report his current situation. My mother received her reply, but Apu's message fell like a rock. Liao Chengzhi felt very confused. Later, he learned from his mother's reply that Apu was not married yet and was still waiting for him infatuation. This moved him very much.
In June 1937, Liao Chengzhi wrote a letter to his mother, with a letter from Mao Zedong to her. In his letter to his mother, he wrote: "Please tell Apu to study hard in politics and study progressive ideas. We will meet again."
The "July 7th" Lugou Bridge Incident in 1937, and the War of Resistance broke out in full swing. In December, Liao Chengzhi went to Hong Kong to organize the semi-public Eighth Route Army Office in Hong Kong according to the decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Before leaving, he sent a telegram to his mother and sister, telling him about his arrival in Hong Kong.
After receiving his son's telegram, He Xiangning was preparing to go to Hong Kong. At this time, Jing Puchun also came to Shanghai from Shaoxing, Zhejiang. So, Jing Puchun took a boat from Shanghai to Hong Kong with He Xiangning, his daughter Liao Mengxing, son-in-law Li Shaoshi and others.
Farewell after marriage
In early January 1938, when Liao Chengzhi arrived in Hong Kong, He Xiangning and his group had arrived in Hong Kong in advance. The ship slowly landed. Among the crowd greeted by the dock, Liao Chengzhi recognized Apu whom he missed day and night at a glance. After more than four years, Apu has lost his childishness, his eyebrows are a little mature, and he looks more handsome. When Liao Chengzhi came ashore, Jing Puchun also recognized him. The two of them held their hands tightly, with tears of joy in their eyes.
Liao Chengzhi arrived in Hong Kong for a few days and had no time to prepare, so he got married to Jing Puchun on January 11. After getting married, Liao Chengzhi immediately devoted himself to the intense work.
On December 8, 1941, the Japanese army attacked Pearl Harbor, and the Pacific War broke out. According to the instructions of Zhou Enlai, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission and Secretary of the Southern Bureau, Liao Chengzhi quickly devoted himself to the intense work of rescuing people in the literary and artistic circles.
On May 30, 1942, Liao Chengzhi was arrested by the Kuomintang Zhongtong spies in Lechang County, Guangdong Province due to the rumor of the traitor Guo Qian. On June 5 of the same year, he was taken to Majiazhou Concentration Camp in Taihe County, Jiangxi Province and was imprisoned. In prison, he was firm in his position and was ready to sacrifice at any time. In the poem "Juipuchun", he wrote: The past is flowing, and I will always give you a message to you tonight; if you leave the revolutionary door, be careful not to belittle each other. A white-haired man is still there, don’t sacrifice his love for his children; he should be the best among women, don’t seek fame. There are many martyrs in the Liao family, and many wise men of the classics; the two generations of ghosts and spirits can protect the two clear bodies for a long time.
After active rescue by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Liao Chengzhi was released on April 22, 1946.
The deep love, the strictness of "management"
After the founding of New China, Liao Chengzhi served as director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and other positions. He was called " No matter the Minister of the Ministry " by Premier Zhou Enlai. Despite his busy work, Liao Chengzhi still loved his wife very much. According to Liao Chengzhi's daughter Liao Ming recalled: the father's love for his mother sometimes does not even look like his wife, but more like his beloved daughter. Sometimes my mother is lying on the bed, and my father sits by the bed, looking at her quietly, smiling slightly, coaxing gently, and patting slowly. The lingering love that makes people tremble is indescribable. My mother was a little uncomfortable. When my father learned about it, he always immediately "speaks to the enemy" with a pair of angrily eyes (because I have been with my mother the most). That look is very different from the usual humorous and interesting, and it is indelible in my memory.
What makes me most unforgettable is that late one night, my mother fell while going to the toilet. My father hurried over and heard the sound, and with all his strength, he helped her up like a "battlefield rescue" and sent her back to her room. My father was 72 years old that year. He survived three myocardial infarctions and underwent major heart bypass surgery, but he completely ignored his serious illness. My mother has a long history of insomnia. She can only fall asleep with the help of medicine every day. The medicine has not yet expired, and the whole body is soft. It can be imagined that it is so heavy that an elderly father can actually carry his mother on his back. Isn’t that amazing!
Jing Puchun is Liao Chengzhi's "life manager" and is also very considerate in taking care of Liao Chengzhi. In his later years, Liao Chengzhi was obese, but he especially liked to eat fatty meat. Once, at a banquet, Jing Puchun attended to accompany him. Liao Chengzhi, who was joking, pointed to the door and said, "Apu, who is here?" When Jing Puchun turned around and looked at him, Liao Chengzhi quickly picked up a piece of fat meat and stuffed it into his mouth. Apu found out that he had been fooled, so he stared at Liao Chengzhi with his eyes. Liao Chengzhi looked at everyone and said with a smile, "I didn't eat fat just now, right?" Jing Puchun was helpless, but it attracted bursts of laughter from the guests. After Liao Chengzhi's operation, the doctor advised him to quit smoking. He usually stopped smoking. Sometimes he occasionally smoked one, but was discovered by Jing Puchun. She put her left hand on her waist and pointed at Liao Chengzhi with her right hand: "You dare!" Liao Chengzhi had to take two steps back and raise his hands to "beg for mercy." The CCP leaders have heard of Liao Chengzhi's strict control by his wife. Once, when Liao Chengzhi accompanied Deng Xiaoping to meet Liao Chengzhi's niece Chen Xiangmei , Deng Xiaoping joked: "Your uncle is a wife who is in charge of strict control!"
On June 10, 1983, Liao Chengzhi died of illness in Beijing. Jing Puchun was extremely sad and in pain. She reviewed their 50-year relationship, from acquaintance to love, and wrote: "50 years of love, half a century of ups and downs, have surged in front of my tears, both vague and clear."
On September 20, 1997, Jing Puchun passed away in Beijing. When people went to the mourning hall set up in the residence of Xinghua Apartment outside Chaoyangmen in Beijing to pay their respects, they saw three items in front of her portrait: Liao Chengzhi's small bronze statue, a box of cigarettes, and a lighter.
Love is immortal. The love between Liao Chengzhi and Jing Puchun merged with the torrent of the liberation of the Chinese nation, and further highlighted their noble sentiments. They were "dispersed more and gathered less" during their lifetime, but in another world, they would definitely stay together every day.
