After Gao Gang in the Revolutionary War era came to work at the Secretariat, Li Liqun and Gao Gang often went out on business trips.Along the way, the two of them experienced wind and snow, and felt a sense of sharing joys and sorrows and hardships, and their understanding of each other gradually deepened.
Once, two people came back from a business trip outside and were suddenly invited by Chairman Mao. When he was able to see the revolutionary leader he admired, Li Liqun was excited and full of doubts. Gao Gang immediately explained: "Today is your birthday. Chairman Mao specially invited you to have a common meal to celebrate your birthday."
Li Liqun was extremely excited. She didn't expect Chairman Mao to have a lot of troubles and could think of his birthday. Without thinking too much, she followed Gao Gang to the cave where Chairman Mao lived.
The meal that night was very simple, with only a plate of fried peppers with eggs, a small plate of bacon, a bowl of potatoes, and a pot of millet rice. During the meal, Chairman Mao asked Li Liqun in detail about his situation and gave him high concern.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945, the couple came to work in the Northeast. After coming to the Northeast, Gao Gang served as commander of the North Manchurian Military Region and deputy secretary of the Northeast Bureau, and Li Liqun served as secretary of the Women's Minister of Songhuajiang Province of the Communist Party of China. During the revolution, the two were both comrades-in-arms who worked together and were companions holding their hands in life, and lived a very happy life.

At the end of 1948, after the end of Liaoshen Campaign ended, with the development of the battlefield situation, the Party Central Committee decided to mobilize Northeast Field Army to enter the pass, and strive to achieve the liberation of the whole country as soon as possible.
While the Northeast Field Army was heading south, Harbin Children's Primary School and Children's Primary School of the Northeast Military Region's Political Department Logistics Department must also be transferred. These children were taken care of by Lin Yueqin (Luo Ronghuan's wife) and went south with the large army. But there were still twenty students who stayed there and needed someone else to take care of them.

After the founding of New China, due to the lack of material supply, the students' food was poor, which led to the children's inability to drink milk. Li Liqun, who felt sorry for the children, came to visit all over the country and finally asked for 200 cows from Ulanfu, chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region People's Government. After
