During the Qin Dynasty period, the whole world was unified and the entire world was divided into thirty-six counties. Chizhou was under the jurisdiction of Zheng County. Later, Qin fell. During the 3 years of the Western Han Dynasty, Chizhou belonged to Danyang County . This Danyang County was renamed from Zheng County. The political center of the county was north of Dangtu County, and Chizhou was his area under his jurisdiction. During the Southern Dynasties , Shicheng County was affiliated to Nanyuzhou Nanling County . During the 3 years of the Sui Dynasty, the county was changed to a prefecture, and Chizhou was under the jurisdiction of Xuanzhou. In the 19th year of Kaihuang in the Sui Dynasty, ancient Shicheng County was renamed Qiupu County, and it still belonged to Xuanzhou.
During the Wude period of the Tang Dynasty, Chizhou was established in Qiupu area. Qiupu County was under the jurisdiction of Chizhou. During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, Qiupu County was abolished and was once again under the jurisdiction of Xuanzhou. Chizhou was established again in 765 BC. During the Yuan Dynasty period, Chizhou was renamed as the General Administration of Chizhou Road. During the Ming Dynasty period, Chizhou Road was renamed Chizhou again. Wuhu Road was abolished in the 17th year of the Republic of China, and each county was directly under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province. From the 21st to the 38th year of the Republic of China, many administrative inspection areas were established in Anhui Province. Chizhou belongs to the Eighth Administrative Inspection Area.
