Shiyan City is a provincial city in Hubei Province, and the place name of Shiyan began in Ming Dynasty . In the 20th year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty (1484), Xue Gang compiled the "Huguang Tu Jingzhi" and recorded: "Shiyan is located south of the county (now Yunyang District). Shiyan is built by a stream to irrigate fields." This is the earliest record of the place name of Shiyan.
Shiyan area is one of the birthplaces of ancient humans in my country. In the late 1980s, national archaeologists unearthed fossils of ancient human skulls on the beam of Quyuanhe Academy in Qingqu Town, Yun County.
