In feudal society, the emperor usually had three palaces and six courtyards; during the Republic of China, it was common for old warlords to have three and four wives, and Zhang Zuolin, who was born in a green forest, was no exception. Zhang Dashuai had six wives and concubines in his life. Unlike other warlords, Zhang Zuolin managed the affairs very well and there was no fire in the backyard; secondly, Zhang Zuolin did not allow his wives and concubines to interfere in politics.

Zhang Zuolin, the leader of the Beiyang feudal warlord, claims to have graduated from "Green Forest University" and is known as the "bearded commander". There are 6 wives in total, namely Mrs. Zhao, Mrs. Lu, Mrs. Dai, Mrs. Xu, Mrs. Shou, Mrs. Ma.

Except for Mrs. Dai who did not give birth to six wives, the five wives had a total of 14 children, including 8 sons and 6 daughters. The boys, in order of age, are: eldest son Zhang Xueliang, second son Zhang Xueming, third son Zhang Xuezeng, fourth son Zhang Xuesen, sixth son Zhang Xuesen, sixth son Zhang Xuesen, sixth son Zhang Xueying, and eighth son Zhang Xuequuan.

also has 6 daughters of different ages and experiences, namely Zhang Guanying, Zhang Huaiying, Zhang Huaitong, Zhang Huaiqing, Zhang Huaixi, and Zhang Huaimin. So, what happened to the six of them? Next, the author will introduce one by one:

eldest daughter Zhang Shoufang (Zhang Guanying)

eldest daughter Zhang Guanying: also known as Zhang Shoufang, born to his original wife Zhao. Zhang Xueliang has a very good relationship with his sister. When Zhao died, Zhang Xueliang was 12 years old and Zhang Shoufang was 15 years old. After that, she took great care of her brother and was responsible for Zhang Xueliang's daily life. The two have a deep relationship. When Zhang Xueliang was in prison, Zhang Shoufang also asked someone to bring a letter to his brother to convey his thoughts.

Zhang Zuolin’s daughters basically have arranged marriages. Zhang Shoufang was betrothed by his father to Bao Yinglin, the son of Bao Guiqing, the governor of Heilongjiang Province. After Zhang Zuolin died, Bao Yinglin filed for divorce from her. Zhang Shoufang was naturally unwilling to do so due to the influence of traditional thinking.

In the end, she still did not keep her husband. For this reason, Zhang Shoufang was unhappy throughout his life. Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, he settled in Beijing. Her life was very difficult because she had no source of income. Premier Zhou specially approved a suite for her and provided regular subsidies so that she could enjoy her retirement.

Zhang Shoufang had three daughters and two sons. He died of illness in 1954 at the age of 54.

Although Zhang Shoufang is unlucky, compared with her sisters, she is not the worst.

Sisters Zhang Huaiying and Zhang Huaiqing

Zhang Huaiying and Zhang Huaiqing were both born to Zhang Zuolin's second wife, Lu Shouxuan. Their fates were very similar. It is not surprising that they became Zhang Zuolin's political victims. In 1921, Zhang Zuolin went to Mengjiang as an envoy, but at that time warlords were fighting and the situation was chaotic. Although Zhang Zuolin has the title of envoy, he has no real power. Especially in Inner Mongolia, Zhang Zuolin cannot restrain the princes and nobles at all.

In order to give his economic envoy a certain degree of influence, Zhang Zuolin sent his daughter Zhang Huaiying to Inner Mongolia to marry the son of Prince Darkhan as his wife. Prince Darhan's family has great influence in Inner Mongolia and is an authentic Taoist local force. Zhang Zuolin wanted to win over them, so he married Zhang Huaiying.

Before Zhang Huaiying got married, the Zhang family had never even seen what Master Darhan’s son looked like. After Zhang Huaiying got married, he discovered that the chosen son-in-law was a man who had suffered from dementia since childhood and was unable to live independently. For a man who couldn't even speak clearly, it was obviously too late to regret at this time.

However, this marriage lasted only a short time. After the Huanggutun incident, Zhang Huaiying and Bao Bu divorced.

After the divorce, Zhang Huaiying moved to Shanghai and later married Chen Youtao. She lived a relatively happy life, but after liberation, Zhang Huaiying became alone again. After living for a while, Zhang Huaiying found his sister Zhang Huaiqing who sympathized with each other. The two lived together in Tianjin and eventually died in 1991.

Zhang Huaiqing and her sister Zhang Huaiying had a similar fate. Also out of political interests, Zhang Zuolin married Zhang Mengchao, the son of Zhang Xun, the boss of the Braid Army. This man is similar to the Baobu whom Zhang Huaiying married. The baby has dementia, and Zhang Mengchao has mental illness, so after marrying Zhang Mengchao, Zhang Huaiqing was worried all day long. The two did not divorce until 9/18. Zhang Huaiqing said goodbye to his misfortune for the time being.

After the divorce, Zhang Huaiqing moved to Tianjin and later married Jiang Bingyu. In his later years, he lived in Tianjin with his sister Zhang Huaiqing. Zhang Huaiying passed away in 1991 and Zhang Huaiqing passed away in 1992. The two sisters have to say that their lives are similar.

Sisters Zhang Huaitong and Zhang Huaixi

Sisters Zhang Huaitong and Zhang Huaixi were born to Zhang Zuolin's fourth wife Xu Shuyang. Compared with the three sisters in front of them, their lives are happier. Not only are they cared for by their families at home, but their marriage is also relatively happy. Yes, although it can be regarded as Zhang Zuolin's arranged marriage, the person he married is also much better.

Zhang Huaitong married Zhao Tianci, the son of Zhao Erxun, the former governor of Northeast China. Zhao Tianci has been reading poetry since he was a child. Later he received his PhD and went to work at and . The couple lived a happy and comfortable life.

Zhang Huaixi was originally betrothed by Zhang Zuolin to Jin Yunpeng, the former prime minister of Beiyang . However, before the two could get married, Zhang Zuolin was killed by the Japanese. After Zhang Zuolin's death, the marriage ended, and Zhang Huaixi entered into a political marriage and eventually went to live in the United States with his mother Xu Shuyang.

The sixth daughter Zhang Huaimin was born to the sixth wife Ma Yueqing. Zhang Zuolin was only 4 years old when he died. In 1948, he went to Taiwan with his mother and became a professor at National Taiwan University. Her husband is Zhai Yuankun, the grandson of Zhai Wenxuan, the former governor of Fengtian Province, and they have two sons and one daughter.

Due to the special historical background and some of Zhang Zuolin’s decadent thoughts, four of Zhang Zuolin’s six daughters were in political marriages, the other two were married to dementia and mental illness, one was married to a playboy, and only one was married to the person he married. Not bad. It can be said that among Zhang Zuolin's 6 daughters, only the youngest daughter Zhang Huaimin was not affected by Zhang Zuolin's marriage. She can choose freely, and her life and ending will be happier!
