When I went to Taoyuanbao to prepare for the establishment of Suiying School, I first established the school party committee. I was the party committee secretary, and Zhang Xingzhong, Zhang Gangjian, Zhang Zhuozhi, and Zhang Zhensheng (chief of the organization section) were members. Then, we assigned cadres and established organizations, which was very busy.
On New Year's Day 1949, the 18th Corps held an opening ceremony with the battalion school. Principal Zhang Xingzhong delivered an opening speech and announced the formal establishment of the school. Yu Shusheng, Organization Director of the Political Department of the 18th Corps, and Ren Baige, Propaganda Minister, attended the opening ceremony and gave important instructions. I also made a report at the meeting, talking about the victory in the Battle of Liaoshen, the progress in the Battle of Tianjin and the Battle of Huaihai, and pointed out that Jiang Jun and Yan Xishan had become a turtle in the urn, and Taiyuan was just around the corner. The mission of our school is to train cadres for the Corps to meet the needs of the front. We must implement the policy of integrating combat training with training to serve combat operations, improve political and military qualities, learn to fight, strictly implement the three major disciplines and eight points of attention, and carry forward the style of integrating theory with practice.
At the beginning of the school year, there were two brigades, one directly under the battalion cadre team, and the first team was composed of company and platoon cadres sent by the Corps. More than 400 people formed four squadrons, including battalion captain Zhu Yongmao ( Red Army cadre) and political commissar Zheng Bin. The brigade lives in Hujiazhuang near Taoyuanbao, and the students live in ordinary people's homes. There are no tables or chairs in class, and students sit on their own backpacks during class.
The second brigade is composed of more than 300 students from the former Jinzhong Public School. It consists of four squadrons, including a girls' brigade. The brigade captain is Xiong Mingfa, and the political commissar is Yuan Benhui (a Red Army cadre). They live at the former site of Mingxian Middle School. The school equipment is in good condition.
The directly affiliated battalion cadre team consists of forty to fifty battalion-level cadres (chief and deputy section chiefs, chief and deputy instructors) sent by the Corps, including battalion captain Shi Yaokui and branch secretary Miao Changqing.
The teaching content is divided into several aspects. In terms of political education, it mainly provides ideological education to carry the revolution to the end, current affairs education and urban policy education; in terms of military aspects, it includes the ten military principles, night battles, mountain warfare , Education in strategic tactics such as mobile warfare. In terms of teaching methods, we adopt a combination of large and small reports, reports and discussions, and concentration and decentralization. At that time, the trainees lived in ordinary people's homes in the villages near Taoyuan Fort. Some of the trainees had been trained in the army, and some were intellectuals with a certain culture. They quickly accepted the influence of the army's style and were able to consciously abide by organizational disciplines and not be afraid of hardships and difficulties. Good study and life.
In February and March 1949, we conducted disciplinary education on the basis of studying "Carrying the Revolution to the End" and "Transforming the Army into a Work Team". Based on the ideological status and some bad styles of school cadres and students at that time, I raised a series of questions for everyone to compare and discuss and improve themselves. In April, based on the study, the school party members congress was held. I systematically theorized the issues raised during the whole discipline study, made a report at the meeting, and published the full text in the school magazine "Teaching". The content includes several suggestions and several objections. For example, we advocate a positive and progressive political atmosphere and oppose vulgar and backward styles; we advocate in-depth practice and oppose being divorced from reality; we advocate active and vigorous energy and oppose passivity and fatigue. At the same time, we put forward six to six key points: be eloquent and dare to speak your own opinions; If you have ears, you must listen to opinions with an open mind; if you have eyes, you must see problems; if you have heart, you must be good at thinking about problems; if you have enough, you must go deep into it; if you have hands, you must write materials yourself and summarize your experience.
Although I am very busy at work, I try to find time to teach students. I talked about " wartime political work " to the directly affiliated battalion cadres.The content includes: pre-war preparations, how to grasp the ideological dynamics of the troops; combat mobilization, how to carry out ideological mobilization and agitation; how to hold a good party committee; how to do a good job in recruiting advanced elements to join the party; how to be a good squad leader... My lectures, It mainly focuses on the situation of the students and is based on my own practical experience in fighting in the army. Although it is very superficial, it is still somewhat inspiring under the conditions of the war at that time.
Taiyuan City was liberated on April 24. In order to solve the material difficulties of the school accompanying the camp, I rushed to Taiyuan City to ask for instructions from Luo Ruiqing, the political commissar of the 19th Corps and the director of the Taiyuan Military Control Commission. Luo Ruiqing, the political commissar, warmly received me, approved a fund, gave me some stationery and paper, and gave me instructions Said: "I hope you can run the school well." Song Zhi, the chief of the military education section of our school, and Li Xinxi, the deputy section chief, went to the Taiyuan City Military Control Commission to request a batch of military supplies. The Taiyuan City Military Control Commission gave our school hundreds of rifles, carbines, and pistols, as well as a batch of captured Japanese military blankets, which were distributed to all school cadres and students.
In June, the Corps Headquarters notified me to send Zhang Zhuozhi, Director of the Political Department, and other comrades to Peiping and to North China District to receive more than 300 cadets from North China University and North China Revolutionary University to enlist in the army. Most of them were from the Pingjin area. of college and middle school students. They grew up in the old society, experienced the test of the student movement led by the party, and demanded political progress. They were all wearing their own casual clothes, colorful. After arriving at school, I took off my civilian clothes and put on my military uniform. I felt that joining the army was an honor and I was very proud. We train them politically and have dedicated battalion instructors as their instructors. We should be considerate to them in daily life and provide them with better food, so that they can feel the warmth of the organization and have a happy life in the army. This group of students is organized into the third brigade of our school, with the captain Wang Xiantang. This group of students should focus on ideological education to carry the revolution to the end, break the concept of hometown, not be afraid of being far away from home, and fight to the end for the complete liberation of the country. In mid-August, the Corps ordered our school to march into the southwest. Our school held a swearing-in meeting. Director Hu Yaobang personally visited Suiying School and made a mobilization report at the conference. He conveyed Chairman Mao's instructions on "advance the army, increase production by an inch, strengthen discipline, and the revolution will be invincible" and mobilized to march to the southwest. He said humorously: "Comrades, Sichuan is a land of abundance, with green mountains and beautiful waters, spring all year round, birds singing and flowers fragrant, and charming scenery... Comrades! Come and settle down in Sichuan!"
