Yang Yanzhao (958-1014), whose real name is Yanlang, was later renamed Yang Yanzhao, who was called Liulang. He was born in Taiyuan (now Taiyuan, Shanxi). The eldest son of the Northern Song Dynasty anti-Liao general Yang Ye , he fought with Yang Ye since he was a child. During the Northern Expedition in the third year of Yongxi, Yang Ye led the army to attack the states such as Shuo and Yanzhao, and Yanzhao was the vanguard.
After his father died, he took on the heavy responsibility of fighting the Liao Dynasty in Yanbian, Hebei. After the Northern Expedition of Yongxi , Yanzhao fought against Liao army intrusion in Jingzhou (now Hebei Jingxian), Baozhou (now Anxin County, Hebei) and other places. After his death, he was buried in Yong'an County (now Henan Gongyi Song Yingzong Yonghouling).

The defenders of the city were less than three thousand, and the hearts of the people were in fear. Yang Yanzhao calmly gathered all the young men in the city to go to the city, and issued weapons and armors to guard them day and night until October.

Yang Yanzhao ordered the soldiers and civilians in the city to draw water from the well to the wall. The wall became strong and smooth overnight, and the Liao army attacked.
