An IOU from Pingyang 72 years ago - DayDayNews

In the early spring of 1949, the weather was very cold and people were suffering from the storm. Although the villagers worked like cows for years and years, faced with excessive taxes and taxes, in the end they still had no food and clothing. This is a true portrayal of the lives of ordinary people in those days.

On the eve of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the people were living hard. The CCP’s underground party organization is also facing an extremely difficult situation. The soldiers drilled in the ravines, stayed in the caves, sometimes ate a little dried sweet potato, and sometimes had no dry food to satisfy their hunger, so they could only hold on.

Wutanqiao Nanshan villager Zhou Dingshan's family has been farming for generations, and his family of nine live on only four acres of land. In order to prepare for his son's marriage, the family tightened their belts to live, secretly accumulating food.

Zhou Dingshan is an enlightened peasant, he has always supported the revolution. When he learned that the revolutionaries on the mountain often endured hunger, he went to do what his family thought, and funded the 450 kilograms of rice that the family had eaten frugally for the guerrillas as military rations, without seeking any return. On the eighth day of March, a group of guerrilla fighters quietly walked into the backyard of Zhou's house. Under the support of Zhou Dingshan and his son, they quickly bagged the white rice, tied it tightly, and put it on the shoulders, and then leaped towards the mountain road in large strides. The supply of food helped the Pingyang County Party Organization of the Communist Party of China to overcome the pre-dawn difficulties.

More than 70 years have passed. The receipt issued by Zhou Kaiwu, the representative of the party organization that year, has a penetrating force on the back of the paper, and engraved the past years. This note, passed down for four generations, is the heirloom of Zhou's family to encourage charity, and it is still treasured in the family of his great-grandson Zhou Xu. Although this note is a little yellow and wrinkled, the heart-warming story will last forever.

In that era of white horror, ordinary people lived by pinning their heads to their belts."Those who harbor enemy troops kill", "people who illicit enemy troops kill", and "people who fund enemy troops kill"... The Kuomintang authorities have posted notices everywhere, which did not shake the faith of the masses in the old districts in supporting the revolution. Back then, there were many touching stories of standing guard for revolutionaries, setting up houses, delivering food and clothing, and raising the children of martyrs in Fengwo Mountain.

Ordinary and great can be equated. Ordinary and sublime can merge into one. This is the conclusion drawn by many unknown heroes with their own actions. Although they have all been asleep in this mountain, the reputation of Fengwo villagers is that their wonderful scene of braving their lives to support the revolution will not be blown away by the rain and wind. They are the cornerstone of the monument, the trees standing upright on the mountain, or the peaks welcoming the dawn...
