According to a new job listing from Playdead, the developer of "Limbo", the studio's next game will be developed using Unreal Engine 5. It’s not surprising that Playdead’s new game uses Unreal Engine 5. As early as 2020, Playdead announced a publishing partnership with Epic. Epic will provide all development costs of the new game as well as Unreal Engine development support.
The job listing shows that developer Playdead is looking for an experienced landscape artist. The job requirements show that the position requires "proficiency in the application of Unreal 5 engine." It is worth mentioning that although the position did not indicate the name of the development project, it mentioned that the recruitment purpose was for "a large-scale third-person open world game."
In January last year, game analyst MauroNL exposed the scene concept map of Playdead's new game. The buildings and facilities feel very huge, and the atmosphere is very depressing, even worse than previous works. Combined with other concept art, it feels like a post-apocalyptic type of work.
