Staff have been studying people's fear and attribute the principle of human fear to how we react to atmosphere, tension, cruelty, helplessness and human nature. They start from these five aspects and make adjustments respectively. The studio considers it the most scary game ever – no matter your personal tolerance for horror.
James said that the horror in the game comes largely from sadistic level AI. "They sometimes make the decision not to attack you, jump into a vent in front of you, and when you are ready to attack it, he may jump out of another vent to attack you."
He said the game has a complete ventilation system for creatures to move around inside. Any holes or pipes in the game will cause players to feel uneasy. "AI will find the best way to attack players. For example, when you are using a ranged weapon, the enemy will disappear from your sight, and may enter a vent, and approach you in another way."
