On December 20, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice on the construction of gigabit cities in 2022. The report shows that as of the end of October 2022, a total of 110 cities across the country have reached Gigabit city construction standards and completed summary evaluation work, accounting for about one-third of all prefecture-level cities.

Among them, 29 gigabit cities will be built in 2021, and 81 gigabit cities will be built in 2022. In terms of regional distribution, 41 Gigabit cities have been built in the eastern region, 29 Gigabit cities have been built in the central region, and 40 Gigabit cities have been built in the western region.
In terms of network construction, as of the end of October 2022, the average urban household Gigabit optical network coverage in my country's gigabit cities will exceed 100%, achieving full coverage of urban household Gigabit optical networks. The average number of 5G base stations per 10,000 people in Gigabit cities has reached 22.2 per 10,000 people, which is higher than the national average of 15.7 per 10,000 people. Among them, the first batch of Gigabit cities has an average of 25.8 per 10,000 people, and the second batch of Gigabit cities has an average of 19.1 per 10,000 people.
In terms of user development, as of the end of October 2022, the average proportion of users with 500Mbps and above in my country's gigabit cities has reached 32.6%, which is higher than the national average (24.8%). Among them, the average of the first batch of gigabit cities has reached 34.5%, and the average of the second batch of gigabit cities has reached 30.9%. The average proportion of 5G users in gigabit cities reached 38.9%, which is higher than the national average (31.1%). Among them, the average number of 5G users in the first batch of gigabit cities reached 38.3%, and the average number of 5G users in the second batch of gigabit cities reached 39.5%.
In terms of 5G network coverage in key places, the 5G network access rate in key places such as gigabit city public hospitals (level 3 or above), key universities, key cultural tourism areas, railway stations with passenger transport services (level 2 or above), trunk airports, key roads, etc. all exceed 80%. Indicators such as 5G network signal level meet relevant construction standards. Among them, 84 key places in cities have a 5G access rate of 100%.
