After Chery Automobile and Luxshare had a scandal about the "largest shareholder", CATL soon also stake in Chery Holdings .

Qichacha information shows that recently, Chery Holding Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Chery Holdings") has undergone industrial and commercial changes, and shareholders have added Ningbo Meishan Bonded Port District Wending Investment Co., Ltd., with holding proportion of 3.73%. After querying new shareholders, it was found that the company is , a wholly-owned subsidiary of , which is 100% owned by CATL.

Open the equity structure of Chery Holdings. There are already 7 shareholders, and CATL's shareholding ratio ranks last. Moreover, before this, CATL and the Chery series were not unrelated.

On June 21 this year, Yibin Times Kaiyi New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was registered and established. The new company was jointly established by CATL and Kaiyi Automobile. The company's major shareholder is CATL, and the two hold 51% and 49% of the shares respectively. The company's business scope includes technical services, recycling and cascade utilization of waste power batteries, battery manufacturing, battery sales, etc., and does not include vehicle manufacturing.

The connection between Kaiyi Automobile and Chery is because Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. holds nearly 48% of Kaiyi Automobile and is its second largest shareholder. After cooperating with CATL, Kaiyi Automobile also proposed to gradually stop production of fuel vehicles from 2026, comprehensively develop the new energy vehicle business, and achieve the goal of producing and selling 500,000 new energy vehicle vehicles by 2030.

This time, CATL invested in Chery Holdings, which is likely to deepen cooperation in technology fields such as batteries.

official data shows that from January to November this year, Chery Group's cumulative sales reached 1.1273 million vehicles, and increased by 32.6% year-on-year. Among them, a total of 220,900 new energy vehicles were sold from January to November, an increase of 147.9% year-on-year. In terms of proportion, Chery's new energy vehicles account for nearly 20% of the total, and there is still a lot of room for it. More importantly, Chery's main new energy vehicles are still Chery Little Ant and QQ Ice Cream.

In order to change the status quo, Chery has proposed a five-year plan to invest 100 billion yuan at the "Yaoguang 2025 Chery Technology DAY" in September this year to accelerate the transformation of new energy and intelligence. At this important critical juncture, it is understandable to deepen cooperation with battery giant CATL.

Let’s look at CATL’s plans, and the car companies it invests in are not just Chery Holdings. In fact, since last year, CATL has been "showing a wide net" on the way to bind the vehicle factory.

According to the investment situation in recent years announced by CATL on November 15 last year, as of September 30, 2021, CATL has invested in 75 companies, with a total amount of subscribed to of 15.46 billion yuan. Among them, the investment targets include many new energy vehicle manufacturing companies.

For example, in May 2021, CATL won the investment in Aizhi Auto through its wholly-owned subsidiary Ningbo Meishan Bonded Port Area, injecting a registered capital of 3.08155 million yuan, accounting for 0.3551% of the shares; in the same month, BAIC Blue Valley completed a private placement of 5.5 billion yuan, and CATL was allocated 300 million yuan; in August, Zekr completed a Pre-A round of financing of US$500 million, including investors including CATL; in November, CATL invested in Avita Technology, and then acquired 23.99% of its equity . In addition, CATL also invested in Nezha Auto .

Obviously, while car companies enter the field of battery manufacturing, CATL is also busy expanding the territory of power battery through other methods.

Entering 2022, CATL is still constantly binding car companies, including BMW Group, Toyota , Honda and other international car companies.

At the moment when competition in the battery field is becoming increasingly fierce, CATL may also have anxiety about "geting in the car". Chery, like other traditional car companies, is stepping up transformation and wants to increase the market share of in the new energy vehicle track. While CATL's investment deepened its binding with Chery, it also further moved to the forefront of car manufacturing.
