This is: New Patek Philippe Nautilus Reference 5811/1G-001. In the language of Patek Philippe , "G" stands for platinum, which means the new 5811/1G has a 41mm platinum case, which is one millimeter larger than the steel 5711. Aside from these two changes – one of which is undoubtedly quite important – the new Nautilus is much like the old blue dial Nautilus we bid farewell to early 2021, with some other aesthetic updates and technical upgrades. After a brief green and Tiffany blue, we are back to the familiar (blue) face; the new 5811/1G comes with a sunburst blue dial with a black gradient.
But for those who appreciate the original Nautilus “Jumbo”, the 1976 3700 is so special that you will notice some subtle tribute to that watch from the new 5811. The new 5811/1G features a two-part housing, echoing the "integrated" housing of the Nautilus 3700.
5711 Always adopt a modern three-part case structure. The tricky part of these two-part case is moving the movement into and out of the case, as there is no openable back. In the old days of the 3700, this was solved by a “split” approach, which allowed the winding shank to be separated from the rest of the watch so that the entire movement could be lifted from the front of the watch.
Patek Philippe now says it solves the problem with a new system that pulls the winding handle shaft out of the dial side. The new case structure is not only a sense of history for the original Jumbo, but also for the inspiration for Nautilus itself. After all, the Nautilus design of Gérald Genta was inspired by the porthole of a ship, with the idea that you have to open the "porthole" to get inside the watch. 46 years later, portholes are once again the only way to enter. With this new case structure, the 5811/1G still uses the sapphire case back.
The movement in the new Platinum 5811/1G is the Patek Philippe 26-330 SC movement, the same as the movement of the last version of 5711 from 2019 to 2021. Like the 5711, the 5811/1G has a waterproof performance of 120 meters. Finally, Patek Philippe updated the bracelet’s buckle: it’s a folding buckle, but it features a new, lockable adjustment system that allows you to easily resize the bracelet two to four millimeters.
Nautilus 5811/1G retails for $69,785, and when Patek Philippe launched the olive green 5711 steel last year, its suggested retail price was $34,893.
