Our generation born in the 1980s should have watched the Japanese cartoon " Smart Ikkyu ", which tells the story of the story of Ikkyu, who was once a prince, who had to separate from his mother to Anguoji Temple as a young monk, and used his cleverness and wit to solve countless problems. I was a must-watch almost every episode when I was a child. Through this cartoon, I learned a lot of common sense in life and left a deep impression on Monk Ikkyu. After growing up, through some materials and books, I learned about the real monk Ikkyu in history, and realized many life cognitions from his childhood intelligence, studious and disagreement in old age.
Zen Master Ichikyu Sumhun, from Kyoto, Japan, was originally named Chikimaru , and his Buddhist name was Ichikyu. His father is the post- Emperor Komatsu , and his mother is Fujiwara Noko from the aristocratic family Fujiwara clan. According to principles, Ikki should have enjoyed all his glory and wealth. However, under the rule of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshiman , Japan ended a confrontation between the north and the south for more than 60 years. Although Takako was favored by the emperor after entering the palace, she was a member of the Fujiwara clan, the powerful minister of the Southern Dynasties, defeated by Ashikaga Yoshiman. Therefore, after Ashikaga Yoshiman forced Emperor Komatsu to expel her mother and son from the palace. Ikkyu was arranged to become a monk at Ankorji Temple in Kyoto since he was a child, in order to prevent her from knowing the truth when she grew up and to avoid her having offspring.
Ichikyu's living conditions are very average and he has never received the treatment he deserves. However, he is talented and smart and studious. At the age of twelve, he went to Rensheng Baozhuang Temple to study Vimalakirti and poetry. After becoming a monk at the age of fifteen, he worked hard to study Buddhism, pity and wanted to help poor people. With his poem "Spring Clothes and Flowers", he gained fame at a young age with the poem "When will the guest's sleeves be in love with the guest's sleeves, and the sky and earth are clear. The fragrance and wind on the pillow are sleeping, and a spring dream is not clear." The shogunate general who monopolized the power of the treason, Yoshiman, had been trying to cut off the royal bloodline. The famous Ikkyu was also the one who "wanted to get rid of it quickly", so he set up a vicious plan to find an excuse to "disobey the upper hand" and kill him.
One day, after Ashikaga Yoshiman made arrangements in the mansion, he sent someone to invite Ichikyu to the mansion. When Ikyu arrived, a big tiger was drawn in the screen of the entrance hall, staring at Ikyu from the bamboo forest. At this time, Yiman said to him: "This tiger is extremely cruel and it's really a headache. You can grab it with a rope!" After hearing this, everyone around him thought it was impossible to catch the tiger on the screen. No matter how clever Ikkyu was, he would not easily have a satisfactory reply. Ikkyu didn't care at all, so he immediately rolled up his sleeves, tied a headscarf, held the rope in his hand and said, "General, I'm ready, please drive the tiger out." Yoshiman couldn't find an excuse for a moment, and had already realized Ikkyu's wit, so he gave up the idea of murdering him and tried to win over him.
When he was sixteen, he studied under the monk Kenweng, Nishikiji Temple, and later went to the Shogunate Imperial Zen Temple, Kyoto, to practice. This is a very famous temple. Many people pray for blessings and wishes, so the incense is very prosperous. However, the monks in the temple do not concentrate on studying Buddhism, but instead pursue fame, wealth and desire, trying to cling to the powerful and powerful, without the painstaking practice of monks. Ikkyu hated their behavior very much, but he was powerless to do anything. He could only practice more attentively, and became more knowledgeable and more diligent in Buddhism. Later, he could not bear such a situation and left Jianren Temple . He went to visit Huasou, a famous monk at that time. After the test of splashing water and slaughtering, he finally became a disciple of Huasou.
Ikkyu entered the Dadeshi Huasou's disciples and lived an extremely poor life with him, and he was determined to pursue pure faith. When I was twenty-five, Huasou gave Ikkyu the name "Ikkyu", which means "everything is gone". However, the good times did not last long. After Huasou passed away, Ikkyu's senior brother began to pay attention to superficial skills like others, and began to build temples in luxury without practicing hard. He also claimed to be the heir to the master's mantle.Ikyu could not bear the flashy and hypocritical actions of his senior brother and monks. At the age of 34, Ikyu left Datoji and began to travel around the world.
However, the temples that were cultivated in the Qing Dynasty are still like this, how can the secular world be better? During the folk travel, Ikkyu saw the darkness and ugliness of society, felt the messyness of the mortal world, was completely disappointed with the world, and began to be unrestrained. He despised the dogma of Zen Buddhism, despised the hypocritical face of the powerful and nobles, blatantly violated all kinds of dogmas, began to destroy the precepts, drink and eat meat, and lingered in the place of romantic affairs and indulged in women. In 1437, when the National Master of Dade Temple opened the mountain and opened the mountain, the 43-year-old Ikkyu actually attended the meeting with his woman and stayed in the temple with her at night while everyone prayed for blessings, flirting and laughing, which aroused the dissatisfaction of the monks. Ikyu also publicly rebuked monks for secretly pursuing carnal desires, and on the surface they were hypocritical and secretly committed crimes. He said: "Famous prostitutes talk about love and eminent monks talk about Zen are really similar!"
Ikkyu had dated countless women in his later years. When he was 78 years old, he also met a blind singer named Sen. Mori, who was 40, fell in love with him. Ikkyu did not hesitate to the huge age difference and identity differences between the two. They were in love and loved each other. Ikkyu wrote many erotic and explicit love poems for him, boldly and unrestrainedly declaring his love, such as "Blind Sen chanting with him every night, and was whispered by the mandarin ducks. The new covenant, the three meetings of the ancient Buddha, was in the spring of the ancient Buddha." This love story was legendary and romantic. Ikkyu kept Monkey with him to take care of him, which lasted for ten years. Until December 12, 1481, Ikkyu, who was 88 years old, died in the office of the abbot of the Datoji Temple because he did not retreat due to a high fever.
Japanese people call Ikkyu a "wine and meat monk" and a "crazy Zen monk" to satirize his unrestrained and crazy life. In terms of Japanese Zen , what Monk Ikkyu did is not a respected monk. But he used his crazy life to ridicule the sins of the world and fight against the ugly society at that time in his own way. He dared to face the powerful and powerful in public for the sake of the poor people, accusing the darkness of the upper class in public. He opposed Zen asceticism and often used poetry to mock the hypocrisy of monks. Ikyu devoted himself to practicing in his early years and was unrestrained in his later years, but he did have a firm Zen heart and a deep pursuit of the purest and sincere pursuit of Buddhism. Compared with the hypocritical monks, Ichikyu can be regarded as a true practitioner of Zen Buddhism.
