Family Manga
Text / Feng Jicai
In my study room, I can see a kind of painting of my own everywhere. I have never published it before. This is my kind of "family manga".
The so-called family comics, the comics are all family members. It was originally me, my wife, and my son. After the son got married and got married, there were only two comic characters left-my wife and I. This comic is all drawn by me. My wife is not passive, because I like to laugh at myself. I often use comics to tease myself and make her laugh. Manga is one of the best humor. The subject matter is all kinds of daily trivia and small talk content; exaggeration, absurdity, mockery, self-satisfaction and nonsense can be used to make life easy, active and joyful. I can demonize myself or deify myself, all of which can cause a burst of laughter. In the family, there is no need to pretend or be serious. The home is the only undefended place in the world. Family cartoons are purely self-entertaining, they can be drawn as you please, without taboos. With comics, life is more energetic. Sometimes there is inspiration and whimsy, and a wonderful family cartoon is born.
But I have too many comics like this. After I draw and read a smile, I just put it in a book or anywhere. After that, I accidentally popped out, and I saw that it might be an "old work" from ten or twenty years ago, but the past in the painting can be recalled immediately, along with the memories, which evokes a burst of joy.
Once, an editor found out and wanted to give me a "Family Comic Book". I said I don't want to be a consumer product for people after dinner. If people want to have fun after dinner, I can write a few absurd novels.
The original manuscript

People always realize the original intention and value of doing something after the fact, so it is difficult for us to save our earliest manuscripts. Fortunately, I still have an early manuscript-"Tianjin Brick Carving Art" intact. I was 21 years old when I wrote this book, and I was doing the work of copying ancient silk paintings in a painting studio. At that time, I was obsessed with the culture of the Jinmen region, including the exquisite brick carvings that can be seen everywhere on the street houses in and outside the old city. However, at that time, these brick sculptures were abandoned in the eyes of the world and were not cherished; the situation of other precious folk art is also like this. So I wanted to do a comprehensive survey, collection and research of the main local folk art in Tianjin, and then edit and publish it. I don't want to just look for materials from ready-made books, I have to investigate it myself. At that time I didn't know the term "field investigation", and my plan was huge and ambitious. I wanted to find out all the remains of folk art in the entire city. Now think about it, I will protect the national folk cultural heritage and ancient villages in a few decades. Isn't it also concerned about the endangered field remains, and I am going to do a rescue investigation to wipe out and clean up the family? Isn't it all this way of thinking? Isn't it the same line?
For about a year, I tied a wooden stool to the frame behind the bicycle seat every day. Hanging on his chest is an old-fashioned "127" camera borrowed from a friend, with a small note book in his pocket, walking street by street in the old city, looking left and right, and seeing brick houses Stopped, took off the stool tied to the car, stepped on it to take pictures of the brick carvings, and then took out a small book to make transcripts, and also wanted to find a way to walk into the courtyard to have a look; but people don’t know what I do. According to the appearance, I am too young, not like a public official in the housing management department, and often suspicious of me; I can't explain my thoughts clearly, and they can't understand it. It seems that I was not understood when I did such a thing.
"Tianjin brick carving distribution sketch map" drawn in the manuscript
3 span p12I basically figured out the distribution of the brick carvings in Tianjin. I drew a "Schematic Diagram of the Distribution of Brick Carvings in Tianjin". For example, in the old city, Beimennei Street, Nanmennei Street, Nankai Erwei Road, Guyi Street , Hedong Liangdian Street, and Jinjiayao have a lot of remains. I marked them with thick lines, and the rest are thin lines.
During the investigation, I have another important gain. I found Mr. Liu Fengming, a famous brick carving artist in Tianjin who was still alive. The history of brick carving has also figured out the origin and the truth of his famous "tiling method". He enthusiastically helped me by telling me the structure and function of the brick carvings of the gate tower, shadow wall, roof ridge, and parapet wall one by one. I drew the structural drawings of the brick carvings of each part of these buildings under his guidance.
In this unprecedented field of "practical combat" rich harvest, I have the desire to publish a book. At that time, I was young and courageous, so I directly talked to the editor of the Fine Arts Publishing House and was recognized. So there is this manuscript.
Inner pages of the manuscript
, one of the "Tianjin Young People's Plan" and "Tianjin Liuliu Art" is one of the "Tianjin Young People Carving" Art The investigation of "Kite Wei" was interrupted due to the impact of the times. "Tianjin Brick Carving Art" failed to be published, and it was put on hold. It took more than half a century to put it aside, who would have thought that the manuscripts from that year were still there! Is it to save or survive?
Its meaning shows the long and profound relationship between me and folk culture. Its actions and thoughts are actually in line with what I am today.
This year, my good friend Mr. Zhou Limin saw this manuscript, with a keen eye, he saw its "initial" meaning in the history of my cultural heritage protection, and helped me find a "friend" The publishing house prints books in the form of "book manuscripts".
So it came back to life. It has been lying in my cabinet for more than fifty years, and now it stands magnificently on my bookshelf.
This should be my most peculiar book.
