CCleaner is a Windows system optimization and security cleaning application that is popular among consumers, but the application was recently marked as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA) in Microsoft Defender. Microsoft later explained that the reason was the software bundled with the application installer. Now, the developer of CCleaner, Piriform, said that after consulting with Microsoft, this issue has been fixed, but no details have been disclosed.

wrote in a statement submitted to foreign media SoftPedia: "We are in contact with Microsoft to understand why CCleaner was recently detected as a PUA. We speculate that the problem seems to be caused by the bundled software, and we believe this problem has been resolved. Our products will no longer be marked as PUA.”
Microsoft explained that Google Chrome, Google Toolbar, Avast Free Antivirus and AVG Antivirus Free applications are provided in the installer of CCleaner, although the installer provides Skip the installation option, but some users may end up installing these bundled apps without realizing it.
Microsoft said: “Although the bundled application itself is legal, bundled software, especially products from other vendors, may cause unexpected software activities and negatively affect user experience. Although the CCleaner installer does provide An option to opt-out, but some users can easily install these bundled applications inadvertently."
