The word "Super" is often used to describe something or someone good or great, but it is also a prefix we often put in front of other words to make it more, bigger, better or more important (such as supersize, superstar). Our students have learned a lot of words starting with "super-", but in order to illustrate the power of "super-", they wrote about "super-" people or things. When completing this task, they have to write strong details to prove the use of "super-".
First, we looked at some "superheroes" that everyone is familiar with. Then, we started the writing process through "brainstorming" and discussed the characteristics of these people and how they are different. The students quickly discovered that the qualities that make them "super" are things we can do too, but they do it more extreme.
Next, the students are responsible for describing their own "super____", writing their ideas on practice paper and modifying them into a paragraph, and then write a draft. In the composition, they should use supporting sentences to prove why the people/things they created are "super" (WeChat pic_c.01-06). Afterwards, they revised the composition together (WeChat pic_d.01-03). After
, they worked together to modify the composition.
Finally, the students rewrite every paragraph and publish their work. We ask students to describe "super____" in detail. By recognizing and understanding the use of prefixes such as "super", students will quickly give meaning to new words and increase their vocabulary.
