Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that Black Adam will not be part of DC Studios' "Chapter 1" under the leadership of James Gunn.

The DC film slate is undergoing a massive overhaul after Gunn and Peter Safran took over a few months ago, and Henry Cavill's Superman return has been revealed to be one of the casualties of the new regime.

Now, The Rock said in a statement shared on Twitter: "I wanted to give you a long-awaited update on Black Adam regarding the character's future in the new DC Universe.

"James Gunn and I have been contacted and Black Adam will not be entering the first chapter of their storytelling.

"However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable Black Adam available for use in future chapters of the DC Multiverse."

The Rock insisted that he will "always support" DC and Marvel's success and that he remains "extremely proud" of "Black Adam" as a film.

He continued: "You guys know me, I have a pretty thick skin - you can always count on me to just say what I say.

"These decisions made by James and DC leadership represent their vision for the creative lens of the DCU.

"After 15 years of hard work, Black Adam was finally made, and I'm extremely proud of the film we made for fans around the world.

"I will always look back on the fan response to Black Adam with great gratitude, humility, and love. We're doing great.

He also promised to "always listen" to fans and joked that he needed some tequila of his own after an eventful few weeks.

He added: "To my very passionate and outspoken fans of the Black Adam/superhero genre - I love you, thank you and I will always listen to you and provide and entertain you in any way I can.

"What a terrible month - we all need some Tremana right now!

Responding to Johnson's statement, Gunn teased plans to "collaborate" in the near future.

He wrote on Twitter: "Love The Rock and I'm always excited to see what he and Seven Bucks do next." Can't wait to work together soon.
