Henan is a major agricultural province, and Zhoukou is a large plain without a small hill. For many years, Zhoukou has only one university, that is, Zhoukou Normal College, which has now been built.

However, in recent years, the construction of Zhoukou universities has made rapid progress. In 2019, Zhoukou Technological Vocational College was successfully upgraded to undergraduate college Henan Vocational University , and it is also the only vocational undergraduate college in Henan Province so far.

In 2021, Zhoukou Preschool Normal School was successfully upgraded to Zhoukou Liberal Arts and Science Vocational College, realizing the transformation from a secondary technical secondary school to a junior college. This school was once a century-old prestigious school, Huaiyang Normal School. First in Huaiyang, then moved to Zhoukou city.

Now, Zhoukou has two undergraduate schools: Zhoukou Normal University and Henan Vocational University of Science and Technology. Two junior colleges: Zhoukou Vocational College of Arts and Sciences and Zhoukou Vocational and Technical College .

Recently, the Zhoukou Municipal Development and Reform Commission issued an approval for the construction project of Zhoukou Vocational and Technical College's "Relocation and Construction and Upgrading" with a planned area of ​​1,332 mu, an investment of 2502.7 million yuan, and a planned number of 14,900 students. Another undergraduate, full of hope. Although it is an higher vocational college, its predecessor was several schools that were once very glorious in the local area: Zhoukou Radio and Television University, Zhoukou Agricultural School, Shenqiu Normal School, Zhoukou Art School, Xihua Normal School and Zhoukou Health School . In the 1980s and 1990s, any of these schools could become people within the system.

school has 3 campuses, namely Kaiyuan Campus, Wenchang Campus, and Zhongzhou Campus. After the relocation and construction are successful, the school will have four campuses.
