On September 15, the list of winners of the 2022 " Science Exploration Award " was announced. School of Engineering, China Ocean University Professor Liu Yong won this honor and became the first scientist in the school to win the award.
"Science Exploration Award" was established in 2018. It is a public welfare award led by scientists and funded by Tencent Foundation. It is aimed at the fields of basic science and cutting-edge technology, and supports young scientific and technological workers 45 years old and under working full-time in mainland China and Hong Kong and Macao.
The award selects no more than 50 winners every year, and a total of 200 outstanding young scientists have been funded in the five years by 2022. There are ten fields of awards, namely: Mathematical Physics , new chemical materials, astronomy and geology, life sciences, medical science, information and electronics, energy and environment, advanced manufacturing, transportation and construction, and cutting-edge intersection. Professor Liu Yong is one of the winners in the field of transportation and construction.
"Science Exploration Award" has its own unique positioning, adhering to the purpose of "facing the future, rewarding potential, and encouraging exploration", encourage young scientific and technological talents to explore the "no man's land" of basic science and cutting-edge technologies, and support young scientists to carry out original and leading research.
Since its establishment, this award has attracted widespread participation from the science and technology and education sectors. Academicians of the two academies and university presidents, and international grand prize winners such as Nobel Prize , Turing Prize , Fields Prize and other international grand prize winners participated in the nomination and recommendation. The international influence of the awards continued to increase.

Liu Yong, male, born in December 1977, an expert in coastal and marine engineering, professor and doctoral supervisor of Ocean University of China, currently vice president of Ocean University of China, and also a member of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education, and a director of the China Marine Lake Society. National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation winner, selected as a National High-level Science and Technology Talent Program, a special expert in Taishan Scholars in Shandong Province.
Professor Liu Yong has been committed to the research on hydrodynamic analysis methods and design theory of new offshore structures, and has achieved a series of innovative results in the new hydrodynamic analysis methods of air-permeable structures, the structural design theory of open holes, caisson , and the research and development of environmentally friendly coastal structures. He has won 2 second prizes for national scientific and technological progress, 2 first prizes for marine engineering science and technology, Excellent Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Higher Education Colleges and Universities 1 First Prize for Technical Invention, 1 Second Prize for Natural Science, 1 Second Prize for Natural Science, 1 China Water Transportation Construction Industry Association Special Prize for Science and Technology, and other scientific and technological awards. He has won the honorary titles of Outstanding Communist Party Member of the Education System of Shandong Province and Qingdao Model Worker.
