Ryzen 7000 series have not been very good. It’s not that the processor performance isn’t good enough or that it’s too expensive. In fact, compared with the previous generation of Ryzen 5000, although the architecture of Ryzen 7000 has not changed much, with the advanced manufacturing process and the optimization of AMD, the performance is still greatly improved compared to the previous generation, and can compete with the 13th generation Core ; in terms of price, Ryzen 7000 has experienced a major price reduction less than two months after its release. The price is now much lower than when it was released, and the price/performance ratio can be said to be higher. But AMD’s real problem is not with the processor, but with other important devices on the entire platform that are too expensive!
Since the Ryzen 7000 series processors have abandoned the AM4 interface that has been used for many years and replaced it with the new AM5 interface, users have to replace the motherboard. AMD has brought new DDR5 memory and PCI-E 5.0 to Ryzen 7000, as well as new X670 and B650 series motherboards. But the problem is that the current X670 and B650 series motherboards are too expensive. Ordinary X670 motherboards often cost more than 2,000 yuan. Even some manufacturers that sold low-priced motherboards in the past launched motherboards that were far more expensive than expected. The low-end B650 motherboards also cost more than 1,000 yuan, which makes consumers really unable to complain.
The current price of DDR5 memory has actually come down. Even if you buy a 32GB DDR5 5600 set, it actually only costs about a thousand yuan, and you can easily overclock to DDR5 7000 or above. But motherboards are indeed still unaffordable. If you look at the motherboards of , JD.com, and , you will know that the cheapest X670 motherboard, even without the E suffix, is priced as high as 1,999 yuan. The cheapest B650 motherboard is priced at around 1,199 yuan. In the past, manufacturers such as ASRock , Biostar , etc. would launch cheap motherboards with relatively fewer functions and poor workmanship, but we cannot see such products on the X670 and B650.
So although the price of the processor is not high and the DDR5 memory has also dropped, the price of the motherboard is too high for everyone to afford. AMD itself seems to be aware of this problem. If it wants to increase the sales of Ryzen 7000, it must launch a lower-end and cheaper chipset. In this way, the cost of the chipset will be reduced, and manufacturers can launch cheaper motherboards. It is reported that AMD is planning a new chipset with the goal of reducing costs and prices, while cutting off some non-essential functions, such as PCI-E 5.0, while retaining the main core features.
Obviously AMD’s approach is wise. You must know that except for domestic Moore threads, no mainstream graphics card supports PCI-E 5.0, not even AMD’s latest RX 7000 series. And because the bandwidth of PCI-E 4.0 is sufficient, even if there are graphics cards supporting PCI-E 5.0 in the future, there will be no improvement in performance; in addition, although PCI-E 5.0 SSDs have explosive performance, few manufacturers have launched actual products yet, and even if PCI-E 5.0 SSDs have excellent performance in the future, the price will definitely be ridiculously expensive. In addition, such high-performance SSD is of little practical significance to ordinary users. Currently, PCI-E The 4.0 SSD can reach a read and write speed of 7000MB/s, which is sufficient no matter what field it is used in.
We still don’t know the name of AMD’s new low-end chipset. It may be the same as in the past, using a model starting with A, such as A640. In addition, there were rumors that AMD would launch a low-end A610 chipset before, but there is not much news now. However, the CES exhibition is about to open. Perhaps AMD can reveal more information to us at this exhibition. After all, with more cheap motherboards, Ryzen 7000 can achieve better sales!
