According to CNET, the iPhone 15 series may not be available until the fall of 2023, but there are still many questions about what features to expect from this Apple next-generation phone.
For example, will the iPhone 15 have a USB-C interface? Will Apple increase the price of iPhone in 2023? Will it be called "iPhone 15"?
No one knows the exact answer except Apple , but there are some rumors out there that are sure to satisfy our curiosity before Apple releases the next iPhone.
Here are some of the most widespread and credible rumors we’ve seen so far to paint a picture of what we might see from the iPhone 15.
iPhone 15 charging design: using USB-C interface
So far, the hottest design rumors involve the iPhone’s charging port, because of EU regulations, iPhones sold in the region will need to switch to USB-C charging ports by 2024. The question is whether Apple will switch to USB-C for all iPhone models, or whether it will only sell USB-C models in the EU.
Previously, Apple has designed different iPhone models for different regions, just like it did with iPhone 14: The US version of the iPhone has an electronic SIM card, while the versions in other regions still retain the physical SIM card slot.
But Techsponential’s analyst Avi Greengart believes that Apple has good reasons to switch all iPhones to USB-C. Greengart said: "There are larger ecosystem, security and accessory considerations when it comes to power/data connectors, so I think it is more likely that Apple will switch all new iPhone interfaces globally to USB-C in the iPhone 16 time frame to comply with European regulations." There are rumors that the overall design of the iPhone 15 will be roughly similar to that of the 14 Pro, except that the deformable hole design called "Dynamic Island" will be applicable to all models of the iPhone 15 series.
This rumor comes from display analyst Ross Young, who also stated in a tweet in September that he believes that the base model of iPhone 15 will not have a higher refresh rate like the Pro model iPhone because the supply chain cannot support it.
iPhone 15: The iPhone 15 pro version may be equipped with solid-state buttons
Well-known Apple observers and analysts at TF International Securities Ming-Chi Kuo expect that Apple will further differentiate between its basic and Pro models in the next few years.
He wrote in an October tweet that one way he expects this to be accomplished is to have solid-state volume and power buttons on iPhone 15 Pro models, instead of the standard buttons on existing iPhone devices.
Kuo said the solid-state buttons will be similar to the home button on iPhone SE and iPhone 7, and users can simulate the feeling of pressing the button through tactile feedback. The obvious advantage of this type of key is that it also prevents water from entering.
iPhone 15 camera: Periscope-style telephoto lens is coming
Ming-Chi Kuo has made another prediction, but this time it’s about the iPhone 15’s camera. The analyst predicts that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be equipped with a periscope telephoto lens. This telephoto lens can achieve a higher optical zoom level, and Kuo predicts that the iPhone 15 Pro Max may achieve 6x optical zoom. The iPhone 14 Pro Max's optical zoom is limited to 3x, which lags behind the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra's 10x optical zoom.
iPhone 15 price: up, up, up?
Since the first-generation iPhone was launched in 2007, the price of current iPhones has increased significantly. This may happen again with the iPhone 15 in 2023, just not in the way you think. According to analysts previously interviewed by CNET, the price of the regular iPhone 15 is currently expected to remain unchanged.
However, if the rumors about a luxury iPhone 15 Ultra are true, the upper end of the price range may be pushed higher.Bloomberg's Mark Gurman writes that the rumored Ultra model could replace the iPhone 15 Pro Max next year.
This is consistent with Kuo’s prediction that Apple will further differentiate the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max phones. U.S. prices currently range from $829 for the entry-level iPhone 14 (128GB) to $1,599 for the top-spec iPhone 14 Pro Max (1TB).
iPhone 15: Release and release schedule
Apple holds its annual iPhone launch event in September almost every year, so we expect the iPhone 15 release time to remain the same. New iPhones typically go on sale shortly after release, usually the Friday of the following week. Sometimes Apple staggers the release dates of specific models, especially when introducing new designs or sizes. Therefore, the iPhone 15 series may have more than one release date.
Here’s what we know:
Apple is leaning toward holding its event on Tuesday or Wednesday. Apple’s iPhone 14 conference will be held on September 7 (Wednesday), and the iPhone 13 conference will be held on September 14 (Tuesday).
iPhone release dates are usually a week and a half after Apple's announcement.
Generally speaking, the new iPhone will be released on Friday around the third week of September. iPhone 13 will be available for pre-sale on September 17th and will be officially released on September 24th.
