RTX 4090 is about 50% stronger than the previous flagship RTX 3090 Ti. If DLSS 3.0 is supported, it can easily achieve more than twice the performance of RTX 3090 Ti. However, RTX 4090 is a graphics card priced at 12,999 yuan, and more people can only watch from afar and not play. So people are actually more concerned about the two RTX 4080s that will be launched in November. After all, the price is much cheaper. The 12GB RTX 4080 priced at over 7,000 yuan may be more suitable for more high-end players . More importantly, when NVIDIA was released, it personally admitted that the performance of the two RTX 4080s would be stronger than the RTX 3090 Ti, which made many people very moved.
However, NVIDIA has been promoting its DLSS 3.0 in the past two days, and also released the performance comparison between LE RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 after opening DLSS 3.0, and RTX 3080. However, NVIDIA also puts on the performance of the DLSS technology that no one has turned on, which directly demonstrates the real performance of the RTX 4080. At least from the pictures released by NVIDIA, the performance difference between the 16GB RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 is already very large, while the 12GB RTX 4080 even performs worse than the previous generation flagship RTX 3090 Ti.
Judging from the actual test pictures, after turning off DLSS, the performance of both RTX 4080s is relatively disappointing. Among them, the 12GB RTX 4080 lags behind the RTX 3090 Ti across the board, while the 16GB RTX 4090 is only about 15% better than the RTX 3090 Ti in testing. There is still a big gap with the RTX 4090. Moreover, although with the support of DLSS 3.0, the two RTX 4080s are ultimately stronger than the RTX 3090 Ti that only supports DLSS 2.0, it should be noted that there are not many games that support DLSS 3.0, and the RTX 3090 Ti itself only supports DLSS 2.0, so in actual games and tests, it will only be more unfavorable to the two RTX 4080.
The reason for saying this is that there are price factors among them. Since the 16GB RTX 4080 is priced at 9,499 yuan, the 12GB RTX 4080 is also priced at 7,199 yuan. If it is some non-public versions, the price will be higher. Now the RTX 3090 Ti can be actually bought at around 7,500 yuan. If you buy the RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 Ti, the price will be further significantly reduced. But these previous generation RTX 30 high-end graphics cards will not be weaker than the 12GB RTX 4080 in most gaming experiences. In this way, the RTX 4080 is not cost-effective.
So from now on, it is not unreasonable that NVIDIA first releases RTX 4090, because even without DLSS 3.0, the grating performance of RTX 4090 is much stronger than that of the previous generation graphics cards. In addition to the rendering of DLSS 3.0, this will give people a feeling that the entire RTX 40 series is very powerful. But in fact, except for the RTX 4090, other RTX 40 graphics cards have no advantages compared to the previous generation flagship graphics cards. However, it is these non-flagship graphics cards that are the main force for players.
If compared with the previous generation of graphics cards, we can clearly see that the performance gap between RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 Ti is smaller than the performance gap between RTX 4080 and RTX 4090. The starting price of the previous generation of RTX 3080 is only 5,499 yuan, far lower than the RTX 3090 Ti's 14,999 yuan, and almost nearly 10,000 yuan cheaper. Now the RTX 4080 is less than 3,000 yuan cheaper than the RTX 4090, but the performance difference is relatively large. So from this perspective, the previous generation of graphics cards NVIDIA is indeed very conscientious. At least on high-end graphics cards below the sub-flagship, it seems more sincere. This generation of RTX 4080 is somewhat of a purpose of grabbing users.
This is certainly not Lao Huang’s knife skills have failed. After all, Lao Huang is probably going to launch products like RTX 4090 Ti and RTX 4080 Ti in the future, but the price will definitely not be cheap. Lao Huang thought very clearly that on the sub-flagship graphics card, that is, the RTX X080 series products, it must focus on making high profits. This is a bit like the RTX 3070 grating performance was lower than that of the RTX 2080 Ti, but how much does the RTX 3070 cost? How much does RTX 4080 cost now? So when DLSS 3.0 is not yet popular, buying the previous generation of RTX 3080 graphics card seems to be a more cost-effective choice.
For high-end players, we personally believe that if you can't afford the RTX 4090, then don't consider the two products of RTX 4080 for the time being. The RTX 4080 16GB performance is indeed stronger than the RTX 3090 Ti, but the price of 9499 yuan is indeed not friendly enough, which is a full 2,000 yuan more expensive than the current market price of RTX 3090 Ti. There is no cost-effectiveness at all, and there will not be any significant improvement in gaming experience.
We think we should either grit our teeth and choose RTX 4090, or consider products of the RTX 3080 to RTX 3080 Ti, the performance is not much lower than that of the 12GB RTX 4080. It can even be said to be on par (RTX 3080 Ti), but the price is much cheaper. If you really think the characteristics of RTX 4080 are quite attractive, you can wait until the price of RTX 4080 is significantly reduced before considering it!
As for future products below RTX 4080, when the mid-to-high-end products of RTX 30 are still in the market, there is no need to buy them no matter how you look at it! After all, the RTX 30 series is still being cleared, and the prices of products such as RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti are relatively low. In the future, you can buy them in a misplaced manner. For example, if you buy the RTX 3080 Ti, you can have the same gaming experience as the RTX 4080. If you buy the RTX 3070 Ti, it is estimated that the gaming experience is similar to the RTX 4060, but the price you pay will be much smaller!
