Intel 's Raptor Lake-HX series will be unveiled on 2023 CES, including the Core i9-13980HX, the fastest laptop CPU to date with 24 cores. So far, five Intel's 13th-generation Raptor Lake-HX laptop SKUs have been leaked some time ago.
This lineup was initially confirmed as the Core i9-13900HX with 24 cores, 32 threads and 5.4 GHz clock speeds, but Intel has decided to design a "Halo" SKU that will be one level higher than any laptop CPU and provide the highest performance in current notebooks.
Intel Core i9-13980HX, this monster CPU is designed to have 8 Raptor Lake-based P cores and 16 E cores based on Gracemont architecture, so it is fully configured with 24 cores and 32 threads, the same configuration as the Core i9-13900K on the desktop. The CPU also comes with the same 36MB L3 cache, with a maximum turbo frequency of up to 5.6 GHz, which is 600MHz faster than the Core i9-12950HX/Core i9-12900HX CPU, which is a very big performance leap.
In addition to the Raptor Lake-HX series, the standard Intel Raptor Lake-P series will include the high-end Core i9-13900HK, which is currently leading the way with 14 cores (6+8 configurations), a total of 24MB of L3 cache and a 5.4GHz clock speed. This CPU also offers a 400MHz clock speed higher than the 12th generation predecessors such as the Core i9-12900HK.
These two high-end Intel Core i9 Raptor Lake laptop lineups are equipped with flagship designs and will be unveiled at the 2023 CES with the higher-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series graphics chips. We can also expect some advanced cooling technology on laptops, as the CPU with this specification is predictable and requires more power than the standard chip. Intel's Raptor Lake-HX CPU lineup will target directly the Dragon Range Laptop CPU lineup of AMD, which is expected to re-use desktop chips on laptops, up to 16 cores and 32 threads on laptops.
