According to RoadtoVR, Sony plans to release PSVR 2 at some time in early 2023, although the exact time remains a mystery. Now, Bloomberg insists that Sony aims to produce 2 million PSVR 2 units by March 2023, which will mean sales expectations will rise significantly compared to the original PSVR.
quoted people familiar with the matter and said the 2 million figure "may be adjusted based on the sales momentum of equipment." However, after PSVR 2 was reportedly mass-produced in September, it did not face any supply chain problems.

The PSVR released in October 2016 reached the 2 million NT mark about 14 months after it was launched. At the end of 2019, Sony announced that the headset had sold more than 5 million units. It is worth mentioning that when PSVR sold 2 million units, Sony had sold 70.6 million PS4s, a huge potential installation basis that the PS5 has not yet been realized.
According to Android Authority sales data, as of August 2022, Sony has sold only 5 million PS5 units. Bloomberg reported that while PSVR 2 sales will start with "an expected supply chain bottleneck relief", this has affected the launch of the PS5, so Sony may be seeking to significantly increase PS5 production to further maximize PSVR 2 sales.
In the other direction, it is not certain how many Meta Quest 2 have been sold so far, but IDCh data shows that Quest 2 has sold about 3 million units in the first quarter since its launch in 2020.
IDC further claimed that as of June 2022, Quest 2 sales have reached 14.8 million units, and the VR all-in-one is the most popular VR headset among consumers at present, providing users with everything they need with convenience, including on-board processing.
