July 3 news, it was previously rumored that Apple AirPods Pro 2 will be launched later this year and will include health tracking functions for the first time. However, a new report from Bloomberg downplays this possibility.
In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that the new AirPods Pro are expected to be available "later this year." Latest reports from sources like 52Audio suggest that AirPods Pro 2 will support lossless audio playback and will feature a redesigned headphone case.
Gurman said he does not expect the new headphones to support heart rate monitoring or body temperature monitoring. Both features have been "explored" within Apple but are unlikely to launch this year:
This year's AirPods Pro are unlikely to get heart rate monitoring. As I've been reporting recently, Apple is gearing up to launch new AirPods Pro later this year. For those who bought the first-generation AirPods Pro in 2019, the battery of the earphones may be about to expire, or the usability is declining.
Over the past few months, there have been rumors that this yearās AirPods Pro will be able to determine the wearerās heart rate or body temperature. I'm told that neither feature is likely to appear in a 2022 upgrade, although both enhancements have been explored internally at Apple and may one day appear.
According to 52Audioās renderings, AirPods Pro 2 will still have headphone stems, which will look a lot like AirPods Pro and AirPods 3, and will have a bunch of new features:
Updated H1 chip: The updated H1 chip is expected to have an upgraded SiP packaging system and adaptive noise cancellation, including performance and power consumption improvements.
Find My: AirPods Pro 2 are expected to support Find My, allowing users to locate the earphones using the Find My app. Previous rumors suggested that the earphones would have a speaker on the case that would allow them to emit sound if they were lost.
Heart rate detection: Previously, it was reported that health sensors will appear in AirPods Pro 2. 52Audio claimed that the headphones will be able to detect heart rate from within the ears.
Temperature detection: The heart rate sensor may also support temperature detection, but 52Audio said it could not confirm.
Audio improvements: AirPods Pro 2 will have similar audio improvements as AirPods 3, with a "custom combination of high-amplitude drivers and high dynamic range amplifiers." It will also include adaptive equalization, spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, audio sharing, and more.
USB-C: AirPods Pro 2 will use a USB-C interface instead of Lightning, which is also in line with the change trend of Apple products.
Hearing aid features: 52Audio claims that AirPods Pro 2 will be able to be used as hearing aids. The headset can "collect sound through the headphone box and transmit it to the headset for sound enhancement and playback," with the goal of helping people with hearing loss better hear sounds in the environment. The website believes that the lanyard hole previously described as the side of AirPods Pro 2 is actually some kind of hearing aid opening.
