IT House, March 21. Foreign media 9to5 Mac reported that the popular instant messaging app WhatsApp has recently been updated, which will affect some users who are still using old phones. The latest version of the app has dropped support for iOS 9, which means it will no longer be available for iPhone 4s mobile phones.
IT Home has learned that WhatsApp for iPhone has been upgraded to version 2.21.50 and is currently available on the App Store. The application requires iOS 10 or higher to run. Since iPhone 4s cannot be updated to iOS 10, users who still own these iPhones will no longer be able to use the app.
According to a new support article published on the official WhatsApp website, the following are the new requirements for installing the app.
-
running operating system 4.0.3 and newer Android system.
-
iPhone running iOS 10 and newer.
-
Mobile phones running the updated version of KaiOS 2.5.1, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
The last time the app was updated to cancel support for old phones was in February 2020, and its version dropped support for iOS 8. However, as iPhone 4 and iOS 7 stopped updating, iPhone 4s users can still update to iOS 9 to continue using WhatsApp. This is no longer possible now.
If you are still using WhatsApp on an unsupported device, it is recommended that you export all chat history before the app completely stops working.
