88-year-old Grandma Wang lives in this historic industrial city in Jin City, Hunan Province. Nowadays, she often takes leisurely walks in the community with her family after dinner.
Recalling the days when four generations of family lived together before the shantytown renovation moved, Grandma Wang said: "It was an old house of more than 50 square meters. Even the living room and balcony were installed with folding beds and , so a customer could not settle down."
Tianjin original urban shantytown area was 2.47 million square meters and 32,000 households and 200,000 square meters of black tiled houses in the urban area. These shanty towns have large stocks, many problems and weak functions. They were once a difficult "hard bone" in the process of urban renewal and community reconstruction.
Tianjin City has issued a policy of shantytown renovation. In addition to the demolition compensation, shantytown renovation households also enjoy resettlement subsidies of 30,000 yuan in compensation for second-hand housing purchases and 50,000 yuan in compensation for new housing. Grandma Wang enjoyed this policy, and her two daughters took out part of their family savings and purchased commercial housing in Chengdong New District in 2019, meeting the needs of improving living.

Zhao Shihua is a Bai nationality villager in Xinsheng Village, Laojunshan Town, Jianchuan County, Yunnan Province. Before building a new house, a family of four was squeezed into three low adobe houses. One room was both a bedroom and a kitchen. It rained heavily outside the house and lightly inside the house all year round.
"These old houses were built sixty or seventy years ago, and I really can't afford to rebuild them." Zhao Shihua said. He was physically disabled and had difficulty mobility. In 2016, Zhao Shihua's family was appointed as a poor household with a registered file and card .
