Existence again? FF and Mivolt launch full immersion battery cooling technology

Following the release of the FF91 pre-production car assembly video in early December, recently, Faraday Future (hereinafter referred to as "FF"), an electric car company on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, announced that it will cooperate with supplier Mivolt on the full immersion battery cooling system. . Mivolt will provide FF with advanced dielectric cooling materials to support the patented technology of FF's fully immersed battery liquid cooling system, which includes an integrated battery pack design with a safety architecture.

Recently, in a live web seminar with the theme "Exploring the Future" conducted by FF and Mivolt, the two parties discussed the battery technology of fully immersed cooling for electric vehicles. Nicolas Bel, senior chief thermal engineer of FF, explained the use of Mivolt Advantages of the FF full immersion battery cooling system with liquid as the coolant.

For example, as a non-conductive liquid, Mivolt coolant can ensure the uniform temperature of all parts of the battery pack; the coolant surrounds all batteries, current collectors and control units, which can stabilize the temperature between the module and the battery string, thereby making the battery The group can better respond to the high requirements of the vehicle; the electronic components and their connections are immersed in liquid, which can eliminate potential corrosion risks.

Regarding the principle of the fully immersed battery cooling system, FF has previously explained that the basis of FF's vehicle manufacturing is the variable electric drive chassis architecture (VPA) developed based on the concept of FF. The battery pack is the key system of the VPA. To safely and effectively achieve battery life and other performance, a complex system is needed to support it, which is closely related to the thermal management of the battery pack.

Therefore, in the process of designing the VPA, FF proposed a "full immersion system" solution, that is, immersing all the main battery components in the coolant, and obtained a patent for this solution in 2015. At that time, FF's requirements for the coolant were: "The coolant must be compatible with the battery, non-flammable, low viscosity, and relatively cheap." According to FF, FF is currently improving vehicle performance, reliability, and safety. And the new user-centered concept is integrated into the overall design of the vehicle. For example, FF91, equipped with a 130kWh battery, has a cruising range of more than 300 miles (483 kilometers), and a charging range of more than 500 miles (805 kilometers) per hour. The household charging pile that is planned to be attached to the car will be at 240V. , It only takes less than 4.5 hours to charge the car from 50% to full. FF attributes these functions to its fully immersed cooling system that has been gradually improving in the past five years.

According to the mass production plan disclosed by FF, as of now, dozens of Faraday Future engineering prototypes used for testing have been off the assembly line, and more than ten quasi-production vehicles have been off the assembly line. With the development of business, FF91 verification tests have also To the final stage.

In October of this year, FF also reported that the company received investment from the "old owner" American commercial bank BirchLake and co-investor ATW Partners, and completed its expansion and extension based on the 2019 Advanced Bridge Financing Loan Program. Bridge financing loans include new senior secured loans of up to $45 million.

The two financial institutions helped each other to gain more time for FF's equity financing. It is understood that FF is currently promoting debt and equity financing in the Middle East, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, and many investors have clearly expressed their investment intentions. If all goes well, FF91 is also expected to be listed as soon as next year, and the newly released FF 81 electric Preparations for the development of cars, future models and next-generation core technologies will be carried out after the launch of FF 91.
