Recently, the 2022 National Intelligent Driving Test Competition has attracted much attention in the car circle, which has completely built a "close-body battle" ring for the intelligent driving arms race, making the intelligent driving competition between car companies even more intense. As the only national professional intelligent driving test competition held in 2022, the mass-produced model group basically covers mainstream mass-produced smart car brands sold in the domestic market such as Tesla , NIO , Xiaopeng , Ideal, Nezha, etc.

Unfortunately, Feifan Auto , which is a traditional major manufacturer and is determined to win the "Top3 of the smart driving industry", did not have time to participate, so we cannot see its performance in confronting new forces head-on. However, the recent professional media real-time road test of Feifan R7 without lidar version was exposed. We can see through actual testing the real intelligence level of Feifan R7 in the eyes of "users".

32 top-level perception hardware and fully integrated algorithms, the strength of Feifan R7 intelligent driving without lidar cannot be underestimated. According to official reports, in the early stages of choosing hardware, Feifan Auto considered how to apply a fully integrated algorithm to different sensor versions of vehicles to ensure users' safe and intelligent driving experience. In actual tests so far, the overall intelligent driving experience of the lidar-free version is also very excellent.

This time, the version that combines 32 top-level perception hardware. Except for the laser radar from Luminar, there are a lot of other hardware. Including the first mass-produced ZF Premium 4D imaging radar, 8-megapixel high-definition camera, enhanced long-range point cloud angle radar, high-precision map, etc., it also has the most powerful brain - two Orin X chips, with a final computing power of up to 508 TOPS. Hardware redundancy still has the ability to achieve higher-level assisted driving.

The industry-first Full Fusion full fusion algorithm has not been lost. The Full Fusion full fusion algorithm, which combines the advantages of front and post fusion, can obtain faster, more accurate and safer detection results compared with a large number of redundant system verifications conducted by the front and post fusion algorithm, as well as missed or missed detection caused by a single type of sensor of the post fusion algorithm due to its own capability limitations.

test proves that even the Feifan R7, which does not have a choice of lidar, will not feel much difference in the actual intelligent driving experience, and the overall performance is still remarkable. Especially in intelligent driving scenario recognition, such as intelligent entry and exit ramps, static obstacle recognition and avoidance, which are generally regarded as difficult points in the industry, it can still bring users a safer, more reliable and more user-friendly full-scene intelligent driving experience.

smart in and out ramp, the overall performance is surprising. During the test, we can see that through longer distances and more accurate comprehensive perception, the system will actively initiate lane change about 2km before entering the ramp, and the time and distance of entry are very suitable for the driver. At the same time, in high curvature curves, the vehicle speed adjustment is also very reasonable, giving the driver a high sense of security and stability. This is almost indistinguishable from the performance of a version with lidar.

static roadblock perception, better performance. In the actual test results, it can be seen that Feifan R7 can be sensitive and accurately identified static roadblocks from a long distance, sensitively and accurately, and make safe and fast avoidance preparations to avoid extreme situations. Faced with construction scenarios, Feifan R7's strategy is to slow down and change lanes to detour, which is smarter than the strategy of only active braking and more in line with the driver's routine operations. Of course, if there is a car next to the lane and cannot change lanes and detour, the system will eventually slow down in front of the obstacle to stop. This is almost consistent with the logic of the version equipped with lidar in the smart driving algorithm.

It is worth mentioning that in this "forced stop" simulation test session, the Feifan R7 (tested at 80km/h) that was not equipped this time, which is better than the models equipped with LiDAR (tested at 60km/h). On the one hand, it is due to the fact that Feifan team has conducted algorithm iterations and multiple rounds of test verification for this scenario in just one month. On the other hand, it is thanks to the point cloud data provided by Premium 4D imaging radar. Although its imaging effect may not be as good as that of LiDAR, it still performs very well in obtaining the contour and position information of the object.

"Scene Reconstruction" has both accuracy and aesthetics. "Scene Reconstruction" means the perceptual results displayed on the central control screen, which is the same as Tesla's "Mind of Car". When the vehicle is running, "scene reconstruction" is always online regardless of whether the intelligent driving function is turned on. Users can see the perception elements and detection effects of the background algorithm on the central control and instrument screen, just like looking at the "world in the eyes of the vehicle" from a "God's perspective", so it is easier to understand the decision logic of the vehicle's driving. It can be seen from the actual test results that even without the support of lidar, the accuracy and aesthetics of "scene reconstruction" are still both accurate and beautiful.

Overall, the testing media believes that the Feifan R7, which does not have a lidar version, can also enter the first echelon of smart driving performance. In fact, the more important function of lidar is to provide hardware reserves for higher-level autonomous driving such as L3 and L4 in the future. Its maximum efficiency cannot be fully utilized at the current stage. But to be honest, the Feifan R7 equipped with Luminar lidar will increase the upper limit of smart driving level, allowing users to enjoy a higher-level smart driving experience. I think users can choose the corresponding version in the face of some car usage problems that they care about.

In this "arms race" of smart driving, who can calibrate the new anchor point? Although the answer has not been revealed yet, it can be seen that Feifan Automobile is striving to use the combination of "extreme hardware + fully integrated algorithm" to shoulder the banner of challenge of the "king of the scroll" of the Intelligent Drive.
