Volkswagen executives said that because of the European 7 regulations, mini hatchbacks like (Polo) will be priced at 3,000 to 5,000 euros, which will actually kill such cars because consumers cannot afford them.
Thomas Schäfer also mentioned that automakers must also comply with stricter safety regulations, which will require the installation of advanced and expensive technology. "At present, our engineers are evaluating what this means. But if ( EU 7's expected impact on car prices) is true, we will definitely not invest anymore, we will only quickly advance our plans to achieve electrification."
Euro 7 emission regulations are recommended to implement July 1, 2025. According to European Commission estimates that new emission regulations will increase the price of a new car by 90 to 150 euros. This is already the revised estimated price, with the EU initially estimated price to rise by 304 euros.
