So, what cars do Tajikistans like? "Asia Express" asked the General Administration of Customs of Tajikistan on this matter.
According to General Administration of Customs data, in the past 10 years, Tajikistan has mainly imported 10 brands of cars: Opel , Toyota , Mercedes-Benz , Hyundai, Lexus , BMW , Volkswagen, Audi , Daewoo and Kia .
At the same time, data shows that in the past 10 years, the country's passenger car imports have dropped by more than 50%.
If 51,325 imported cars were worth 200 million Somoni (about 19.89 million US dollars), then 10 years later, in 2021, the number of imported cars was only 24,908, worth 150 million Somoni (about 15.08 million US dollars). A total of 18,782 cars were imported in the first seven months of this year, worth 110 million Somoni (about 10.91 million US dollars).
At the same time, Tajikistan imported a total of 4,239 electric cars this year, worth 4.82 million Somoni (about 470,000 US dollars), including 8 Tesla electric cars. In contrast, in 2021, only 4 electric cars were imported nationwide, including only one Tesla .
In addition, a total of 3 electric buses were imported this year, worth US$108,000.
