The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, the moon waxes and wanes, the water ebbs and flows, and everything in the world is constantly changing, developing, and dying. Nothing is static in this world. Trying to make things last forever is wishful thinking.
The same goes for people. In the passing time or the rolling tide of the times, many things will leave us, whether we want it or not. Therefore, each of us needs to always pay attention to whether the industry, environment, opportunities, reputation and good luck we are in are leaving us and eventually dying.
Confucius said: "Those who have seedlings that are not beautiful will have a husband! Those who are beautiful but not real will have a husband!"
Confucius said: "There are situations where the seedlings cannot sprout ears and flowers. There are also cases where Suiyang flowers fail to produce seeds. "
A crop is not guaranteed to grow as soon as it is planted, nor is it guaranteed to produce a harvest. It also requires careful care, weeding and fertilization, pest control, flood control and drought relief...it is not finished until the grains are returned to the warehouse.
Confucius used the growth, flowering and fruiting of crops as a metaphor for a person's process from studying to achieving success. In this process, if you stop in the middle, it will be like "seedlings but not showy" or "showy but not real", and there will be no harvest.
There was an old carpenter who was very skilled in craftsmanship. He built countless exquisite wooden houses in his life. He was old and was about to retire. The boss couldn't bear to let him go and asked him to build the last house before retiring. Although the old carpenter agreed, his heart was no longer in his work. He was using poor materials and doing rough work.
After the house was built, the boss told him that it was a retirement gift for him. The old carpenter did not expect that the house he built would be his own. He was ashamed and regretful. Losing the " craftsmanship " and prudent approach, all that is left is regret. Because the old carpenter did not adhere to his usual high standards and strict work style, his last work became a defective product, and he regretted it in the end.
Life is always like this. On the long road of life, no matter what you do, you can only achieve real success by working hard throughout your life and persisting until your last breath. If you cannot persevere, it will be difficult to achieve your goals, leaving you with lifelong regrets.
A generation of Confucian masters Dong Zhongshu was talented since childhood. He loved learning when he was young and often forgot to eat and sleep when he was reading. In order to let his children rest, his father, Dong Taigong, decided to build a garden behind the house so that his children could have the opportunity to relax in the garden.
The first year of construction, the garden was sunny and the birds were singing and the flowers were fragrant. My sister invited Dong Zhongshu to play in the garden many times. Holding the bamboo slips in his hand, he just shook his head and continued to recite the Book of Songs assigned by his teacher.
In the second year, a rockery was built in the small garden. The children of neighbors and relatives climbed to the rockery to play. His friends called him, but he remained motionless and wrote poems on the bamboo slips without even raising his head.
In the third year, the back garden was built. Relatives and friends came to see it with their children and daughters, and they all praised the Dong family’s garden for its exquisiteness. When his parents asked Zhong Shu to play, he just nodded and continued to study. On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Dong Zhongshu's family ate moon cakes and admired the moon in the garden, but Dong Zhongshu was nowhere to be seen. It turned out that Dong Zhongshu took advantage of his family to enjoy the moon and went to discuss poetry with his husband.
As he grew older, Dong Zhongshu's thirst for knowledge became more and more intense. He read Confucian , Taoist , Yin Yang Jia , Legalist and other books, and finally became a respected Confucian master.
"Good death" requires great perseverance and perseverance, as well as firm ideals and beliefs to achieve. Each of our Zhongxing family members must take concrete actions to achieve their ambitions in life. Although "the beginning is simple, the end is huge", it is often not easy to achieve a "good ending", but we still need to adhere to the persistence of "a rope saws through the wood, and a drop of water penetrates the stone", and has the hard work of "perseverance, the stone can be carved". After setting the goal, never stop or give up halfway, in order to enjoy the splendor of life.
A good seedling may not necessarily blossom and bear fruit, and the same is true for human growth. Therefore, whether it is learning or making contributions, we must encourage ourselves, work hard, and persevere, so as to achieve the life goal of starting well and ending well.
